SX/SXi/SXi Pro 750 sxi pro hull & foam???

Sooo I have come to conclusion that I have to refoam my hull. But ive never seen any threads of anyone doing it on a kawi always on a superjet. Has anyone on here done it or posted pics? ill post a few pics of what my hull looks like. I want to cut the tray out to defeam it but what are thoes 2 metal pices in there ? Are they some kind of support for the pump?

I know theres water in there it used to sit with the bumpers just barley in the water. Now there is 3in of water in the tray and tilted alot to the right. Its also much harder to jump around i cant sub it anymore. Compared it to my friends 750 too.

Well I decided to start cutting into the hull. I am installing rev footholds while im at it. In the pic u can see water built up along the outside of the hull where the sponsons are rivited into the hull. The foam wasent wet but im not stopping there. Oh and thoes storage tubes were a pain, but using a small cutting wheel and a hammer drill helped A LOT. Im going to try and post as many pics as I can for refrence. More to come soon

I cut into the hull today eeehhh. The foam at the bottom of the hull, the rear of the boat and around all the lines going through it were soaked. 1 inch of water was sitting at the bottom of the hull as well. I cut more holes to get all the foam out but I cut a little into the engine bay. It probly wont matter but if anyone else does this stay back a few more inches.

Since you've read up on this you probably already know, but make sure you lay down some new glass to keep the hull sealed around the bond line.

Also run a line for dual cooling now while the foam is out in case in the future for any reason you'd want to run dual cooling.

my 2 cents.

I read about some guys using filler, glassing it, or 5200 sealant not too shure what to do any suggestions? Also would it be better to use a smc resin rather than an epoxy resin ?

Just about done removing all the foam and glue. I cut 2 more small pices out of the back end of the tray so I could get the rest of the foam out. Pulled the motor and exaust from the back. Kawi glued the crap out of everything. I chipped it out because the foam around all the glue was soaked. The firewall also had 4 holes in it that werent sealed in any way. Hopefully this weekend I will seal it up and foam it.

you definitely need to research because I'm no expert here. like torpedo said most of the guys here are into the SJs. but most of their information can be used on your sxi. I would only use epoxy resin. I would run a strip of cloth around the bond lines, bulk head etc. Possibly lay down a sheet in the entire engine bay and foam area, though this would be over kill.

Just for the record... Kawi foam is far superior to SJ or US composites foam. Whatever you do, don't completely refoam using US composites foam. Use as much polystyrene as you can and fill the gaps with expanding foam. The US composites foam in my SJ soaked up more water in 3 rides than the stock SJ foam did in 15 years...and the hull had two holes in it before.

Thanks for the welcome torpedo. Been super busy with work latley gettin a little behind. I was able to seal the hull up and put the motor back in. I got a few tubes of 5200 and went to town. Wow I made a mess and that stuff likes to stick to you too. I glassed in a few inches of the hull because I cut into the firewall a little, needed to seal before foam. I also got some heat proof tape (up to 600deg) and made something to push the water box back so it dosent vibrate through my hull again.

jfw432- i got my order of us composites foam before i started this thread. But the more research i do i want to use polystyrene and my 2 part foam. It wouldent cost too much more. What about supporting the tray area did u use that 2part as a top layer too?

Well I dedided to go the route of polystyrene and 2 part foam. Stuffed it as much as I could, i left the pices an inch short so i could have a top layer of 2 part foam. I went a little overboard when i poured it in. I made a top layer so i can glass it then ill put the foot holds and foam the rest after words. Also put a drain plug in, it was the smallest one i could find its a little overkill but it will work.

Tottatly forgot about this thread but its been finished for a while now. Got super busy with work and ripped the ski alot. I love the footholds I dont want to ride another ski without em. Here some pics of it now. I would suggest if you do the REV footholds that you glass them in first then fill the foam in from the top. I rivited them in on one side and put the foam in and they got pushed out about an inch. Had to rip em out and do it again. Turfing wasent too bad but i tried to do it with with no seams up top, that was a pain making the corner by the old storage holes. Shes a whole lot lighter now whooo.

Nice job, looks killer!
I will not ride a ski without footholds either
Both my standups have REVs

man this is making me really not want to redo the foam in my boat, i know its going to have to be done before too long though. its starting to sit a little lower in the water
