I have 92 750sx. Just put in a new stator and regulator. As soon as I hook up the battery the ground from regulator starts melting as well as the ground to stator. Assuming it’s a bad ground or short. Anyone had this problem for an easy fix.
something is tied to ground that shouldnt be. trace out the wires for the entire system to make sure it is all connected correctly. start at the (+) post and follow it
do you just mean the wiring for the battery and starter. All the wiring in the ebox is right. I’ve heard an extra ground from battery to ebox would help. I don’t know what else this could be. Thanks.
Positive from starter to positive on Ebox. Another positive on ebox to positive on battery. Ground from starter to neg battery. Not sure what else to check.
You have a wire shorting to ground, or you hooked up the battery backwards. Look for a pinched wire, especially between the ebox halves. As magic as it is, smoke does not appear for no reason, and once you let it out, you will never get it back in.
I’ve got the ebox opened. Looked over every connection. Cleaned the wire ends on the battery leads. I don’t see anything broke or pinched. Everything is fairly new. New stator and regulator. New fuse. Battery is hooked up right. I even changed the way I hooked them up to see what would happen. Same thing.
I know. Didn’t matter it was already burnt. Only grounds I have are the theee for cdi reg relay. No ground from ebox to block. Only the two positive from relay.
One or both of the plastic washers on the base of the starter solenoid are missing and its grounding out on the inside of the e-box. Been there done that.
You can test for continuity easy enough with a multimeter.
Electricity is like water. It flows in the path of least resistance. A DMM is your best friend in your situation. No hoping, no guessing, just answers.
My ebox is grounding. Testing with a light it comes on everywhere on it. I used new plastic spacers. Same thing. Regulator ground burns up. Green wire on my cdi is the only thing that didn’t light up. Need a new cdi now too. This is a pain.
Pull your soleniod out of the box and check the base of the posts. There are thin plastic washers that insulate it from the box. They can only be checked by removing it from the e-box.
Your ebox is supposed to be grounded. If you're using a standard test light, and you have it grounded to the neg. terminal, and it lights up on the ebox, your ebox is NOT grounded.
Yeah it doesn’t have a ground from neg to the ebox. Or one from the Ebox to block. I’ll pull the solenoid today and check it. Hopefully I’m narrowing it down. Thanks again.
Inside of my solenoid there were metal washers against the ebox. Added a ground from neg terminal to ebox. All good. Stupid mechanics messed it up. Thanks for all the help.
