Other 787 Garbage SBT crank

Gee...an another SBT crank that failed miserably, imagine that! Notice the pile of crap welds to the pin. At least I get work because of them. The cases on this thing were welded and painted over too. This guy sent back a perfect set of cases according to him, got back a pile of junk set and an engine that only made it about 40hrs....When will these people learn? Don't ride the "short bus" to save a couple hundred dollars on a good rebuild? I bet the workers there are making next to nothing, no skills, like bow fighting skills maybe, but not building engines! You want the fry guy at McDonald's making your Thanksgiving dinner this year? Its kind of like that!

yea thats nothing new. sorry about your luck
Oh..I'm actually the lucky one. I'm getting paid to fix it the right way. I wouldn't walk across the street to use one of these parts. I feel bad for people that think that "short bus technologies" sells good wares. I get it all the time from potential customers. " I can get the engine on line from Florida for $795 why do you want $1500"? Because when I fix it for my price you get to ride for years....not hours. :nana:

I tell people all the time I will be glad to put you an SBT engine in,but.
1. All you are really getting is a warranty
2. If it breaks you will pay me to take it out and reinstall it
3. I am not handling the shipping of the engine back and forth
4. Its a crap shoot, some of them are great ,some are not.

I won't even install them...as of yet, they piss me off so bad I can't bring myself to allow it. Years ago I tried them, became a dealer etc. Put a 750 small pin in a SS, lasted all summer, so hey...started using them. I should have know it was going to end badly when I received a 720 mill with the piston installed backwards and they made ME pay to send it back to them! I didn't even install it, and they told me if I wanted warranty I had to pay to send it back....then it all went into the turd shoot, all the engines started to fail, one by one....in the end I had to eat some jobs because these were 15+ year customers, my ass was on the line. Since then, I just take on people that are suckers that have had someone else install one, it failed and now that guy told them to pound sand, like short bus did....Thats my story guys, I bet there are plenty of "short bus" story's out there....lets here them....Beat my piston in backwards....frickin' backwards! :usaribbon:

I could change a few things around in that story and it would be exactly what happened to me.

I'll post a kawi 1200 picture tomorrow, classic short bus engine failure. The crap snap ring came out and the pin took a short walk and decided to eat the cylinder before it decided to escape via the bottom of the crankcase. Its pretty.

I sell quite a few used parts and engines..

I get people all the time that want to compare the price of a solid OEM motor, to a SBT motor.

I just tell them its no comparison. If they want SBT, buy SBT...Im selling OEM parts. Some people don't understand...

I personally would rather have a used OEM motor, than have a new SBT motor any day.

This is not a joke i live 1/4 mile away from sbt. In the morning on my way back from the gym. I see several of there employees riding there bikes to work. I bet they are just doing that to save gas... I own a business too and understand there theory(sbt) on making $$.. I do not blame them they have to make a living too.. Yes i'm sure the quality is not the same as oem. Just as many others explain the differance of good quality verses there engines... The business i own is right next to a good pizza place and around 5o'clock two young men that work at sbt also work there washing dishes at night...
You get what you pay for...

helped a friend crack a SBT TS 640 that he couldnt tune
SBT put the crank seal in backwards :jester:
cheaper to tear down and replace seals
than ship back to their flori-duh plant

I put in a 580 one time that sounded worse than the one I pulled out of the ski, when I called and told them that the piston to wall clearance was off and the top end sounded like crap they said run it he has a warranty,if I had built that engine I would of pulled it apart right then and there and fixed the problem.I reluctantly sent it out with my fingers crossed, needless to say it made it out of the warranty period by two weeks.I ended up eating a top end on that one.So I know you are going to ask why did I not pull the top end and replace it from the start, that voids the warranty, thats why.

My HOT RODS crank was from TAIWAN. Well it had Made in Taiwan stickers on it. I WAS FRIGGIN PISSED!
