865ss pump options

I just bought a ski that came with the 865ss and the 140 mag pump. I have to say it feels like it needs the 144. I'm not to sure why someone would spend the money for a mag and only get the 140 pump? Is there any gains to be had by running a smaller pump?

Because a 140 mag stomps all over a 144 stock pump. Just my limited experience.

I have a 144 setback behind my SS865 and an 8 vane 140 standard Mag behind my wife's ported 760. The 140 is heavier and seems to create alot more internal pressure. The 144 flows a higher volume but the 140 has a higher water velocity. As long as you prop either correctly I don't see why they wouldn't work, it just depends on what you are after for performance.

My wife was very upset when she found out I bought a Mag for her ski. She loved her ski exactly how it was and hates when i change anything. She has only ridden it once since I installed it and even she noticed the difference. She said as soon as she hits the gas, the ski just gets up and goes, no more hesitation or lag. She said it was much easier to ride the surf since she the ski responded so much better. She is very happy with it now and glad I did it but I had to promise her I wouldn't change anything else without her permission.

Any idea what pitch you would need in the 140 to equal a 13/18 or a 14/19 in the 144? I have a 14/19 and a 14/23.5 for the 140 and would like to eventually get into a 13/18.

Not a Xmetal but I'm going to run a Dasa SS 850 PV with a blueprinted OEM 144 with TBM cone and 11/17 Hooker or possibly a 12/17 mag prop (no TBM) on a 85mm bored nozzle. No ride report yet but though.

I would like to compare them in the same ski with a quick switch...

I went from a stock pump with a 9/15 hooker to a 140 mag with a 14/19 prop. For the record, a 13/18 was recommended to me but I got the deal on the 14/19 and havent' bothered to change yet. The bottom end had a slight but noticeable gain and mid to top end had an OMG gain. Nothing else was changed.

Thats a small prop for that motor.... My XS846 SS I ran a 144 Non S/B mag with a 14/19... Chris had the 827cc SS motor and went to a 15/20 with the lighter hull

Not sure when your going to install the Dasa, I will have my 850cc Thrust/Dasa at the end of March. Droppin it in my new Surf Freak (80 lb glass hull
Setup will be 850cc, Boyeson intake, Either Novi or FS 46's, Bpipe, 210 Comp, Epic, LW Flywheel. Going to run it with a stock 144, big hub 14/19.....

Will have the new Thrust pump once its released, but its gonna be a stock one at first

thanks Matt, but we can test it with Kevs 827, with either my 140mag or his 144 setback mag with choice of 13/17 or 14/19 , or even a stock pump

I was just looking to see if anyone was currently using this set up

anyways , aint you retired ????

looks like my leg will be fixed before you get your hull, so just send me your 865 ( i will write a comprehensive test report for ya )

or pop up north and drop the engine in my Lenzi hull and have a play
