Should I just buy a whole new setup like so?

Well that not really new..the seals are probably no better. Its not hard to rebuild a bearing housing, hell you dont even need to take off the bearings (if they are in good shape). All you have to do is take off the coupling and three bolts later the housing comes off to replace the seals.

So is it basically cracking open the case in the back of the engine bay that holds the Driveshaft and replacing a couple of rubber seals?

Seals yes, you can get a kit with the bearings for $40. That's up to your discretion though. I know you are trying to be on a budget, if you don't just make sure you inspect the bearings.

Good, just take off the coupling now. You might have to get creative to do it, don't try to impact it loose with a hammer or such. Clean out the grease and inspect the bearings.

Where can you find this kit? I have a 85 js550 and it’s having the same problem as him. Seems like an easy fix just want to get the right parts.
