90 Superjet revs but doesnt go anywhere.

Just got this new-to-me 1990 Superjet. Everything looks bone stock under the hood. Runs ok other than it won't hold an idle. Put it in the water today and she will rev up but wont pump hardly any water. Every now and then if I eased into it it would try to jump on plane, but then would instantly rev out and stop pumping again.

Any tips or a direction in what to look for? The intake grate is clean and the impeller looks to be in decent shape. Out of the water it will freerev fine and seems to have no issue.

I am thinking you either have something up in the impeller that you can't see, or the pump seal is blown out or missing.

This happens to mine too if I ride through weed too slow. It gets right in and stuck and the ski stops going anywhere but revs up. Check the intake is clear right the way through.

make sure your pump is sealed

your shaft and midshaft splines might be worn so its slips under load.

Pulled the pump out today, and it looks like the pump seal is trashed. The impeller looks to be in pretty good shape though, no chips or anything.

Anyone every buy from boatpart.net? I just ordered a new "packing" from them today.

My local dealer wanted $22 + shipping (WTF) so I just said screw it and ordered online.

Also, is there a website you guys use for stock parts that I should be ordering from?

Found a dealer that had the part locally, threw it on today and then headed to the lake.

She's fixed! Bad pump seal can do crazy things.
