91 SN/time for a complete rebuild

Finally built the motor today. About 2 years ago I built a 650/701 for it. Last year bc of a bad crank seal. It went into a free rev and tore apart a piston. I just put together a 61x using my cylinders. It is bored .5mm. Tomorrow I will start on the ski.
Defoam tray
Footholds
Add drains
Reinforce hull
Lost my nose piece in the lake one day so I'm just going to fill in and smooth out the nose
Reinforce where the pole mounts
Thinking about doing the hood
Then paint and turf

Was able to build me a cart to push around and work on the ski today. Started to pull off some of the turf. The ImageUploadedByTapatalk1427668243.640250.jpg

Went ahead and cut the footholds out. Then cut out the tray. Full of water and apparently the previous owner did some glass work on the tray but not very well. Because I was able to pull his work off with not much force. The tray was full of water. The foam was soaked about two inches up the gunwales. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1428022199.011332.jpg

Not having much time to work on her but did get more foam out. I also found one of my cooking lines was cut and dumping water into the tray. Also the previous owner had the right side bondoed and screws through it. After a closer look the panel is warped in and that is the reason for the bondo. I'm thinking about cutting it out then using plexiglass covered in wax paper to make a form for a new panel. Trying to upload pictures but it's not working with me right now

I made sure I didn't cut the cooling line. But you can see it's been there by the rust around it. The last picture is the screws sticking through.

Okay military training had me gone for a little bit. But got the ski cleaned up and now ready to do some real work. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429228494.659849.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1429228525.659176.jpg

I'm going to replace one of the cooling lines then add another so I'll have three. That way I can run the stock syphon bilge.

I went to my local NAPA and ask to look at the brake lines. Well they had a brake line already made and flared that is the exact length of the stock cooling line. Went ahead and grabbed two 5 bucks each.

So I started repairs on the side of the ski where it was bondoed. I ended up just cutting the piece out. Glad I did it, had probably 1" thick of bondo. So I used plexiglass and baking sheets to make a form. I layed to layers of 17oz to feel the gap. Yesterday I glassed over it all on the outside with 12oz.

I also glasses the inside. It didn't curve like I wanted so I used cabosil and the plexiglass(as my giant spreader) to get it to curve with the rest of the ski.

I also sanded and glasses the sides of the engine bay with 17oz glass.

Today I glassed the old exhaust hole bc I moved it down. Plus there was an hole above it don't know why it was there so glasses it.

Next run a tube for trim(seeing I have it open why not run it) then seal everything with 5200. So that I can start the process of cutting foam and getting the tray back together

id suggest making sure the seal on the bulkhead is also good. mine i found is leaking and letting water into the tray. nice work so far!

yea i was going to grind back the stock glue as much as i can and fill it by pressing it into the seam. i can only get to it from one side though as im not ready to cut my tray out so ive been letting it drain for like 3 weeks.

I would grind it, fill with a cabosil mix and lay glass over the seam.

The SN hulls are flimsy and like to flex at that glue joint on big landings. Seal it now while you are doing the work.

I was able to get all my lines and exhaust in and sealed with 3m 5200. I went a little crazy with the 5200 but I wanted it sealed. Still glad I got the drain plugs put in. Should start foaming today. I had to order more fiberglass, used more than originally expected. I plan on cutting up the foam the best I can. Then drizzle expanding foam on top. This way I can shape a new tray to lay fiberglass. The old tray was repaired (not the right way) and broke in pieces. Still wanting to reinforce the bottom of the engine bay plus make a new nose piece.

Not much for taking a lot of pictures. I got the tray foamed in. What a pain in the rear. I took my time to get it tightly fitted. I wanted it to be snug around my lines so a lot of fine cutting was done. Sorry I don't have a pic of it finished. I did poor expandable foam over the top and used plexiglass to keep it pushed down. I just layed 2 layers of 17oz glass.

It's been while since I've updated progress. I cut the foam for the sides. Installed Toby footholds and glassing it back together. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430865712.030647.jpg

Laid one finally layer of 12oz on the tray yesterday so now the tray is done.
I started work on the hood, what a pain. I finally got the liner out and most of the green glue. My plans are pretty much do a yamaslut mod.
Originally I was going to reshape the nose but I am tired of fiberglass and itching. So I member (roseand) was selling his factory nose piece and I bought it. Hoping to send it to my buddy for paint next weekend. I'm going with a metallic blue. I'm thinking about doing the bottom white and the pole white. Everything else blue. I'm definitely putting atleast 6 coats of clear with flex additive.
