Freestyle 96 rn winter build and nose job

Fixing to start my winter build, I got everything pulled out. I got the hull weighed w/ oneway valve, aluminum pump shoe, foot holds, still turfed, with extended turfed rails, 121.4 pds, Hood w/home made hood liner, hand holds and breather tubes, 21.4 pds, handle pole with blowsion turnplate, bars and umi aluminum pole bracket 19.6 pds, The hull seems to b a lil heavy but not sure what a good stock hull weight is suppose to b. My plan is to shorten 3 in, defoam, Possibly makeing my oneway valve pump dump, and thinking bout pump dumping exhaust, not sure bout the exhaust. reinforce engine compartment, widden the tray, go with some adjustable foot holds. And possibly lowering stock hood, would like to go aftermarket hood, but will have to c how money situation goes, also wanting to get one of jet maniacs engines. Im also thinking of reshapeing the gunwales, maybe like a superfreak, Or possible like the lightweight hull,

I started by removeing all the turf, It wasnt as bad as i thought it would b to remove. I just cut strips in the turf, and used a wood chisel, I decided to sand what remaing under padding and left over turf off, with a 4 in. electric grinder, and sanding disc. So much easier than messing with a pnumatic die grinder and sanding pads. I decided to save as much sanding dust that i can from the under padding, turf, and fiberglass. and use it as epoxy thickiner. I want to get a good weight of the ski with everything removed except pump shoe. I decided to drill 2 holes in the end of the hull and c if any water came out, and yep there was water might of been a quart of water that came out. I believe most of the water got in from when i painted my ski, When i removed vin plate off the back i didnt fill the holes in. Im unsure what to do about the gunwales when i start cutting the tray out. I realy need to decide what footholds im gonna go with first i think. I am definately wanting to widen the tray. I even thought of reuseing the dawson diggers i have and fabbing theme so my feet will go in straight. heres a couple of pics before turf was removed.

When in doubt, Throttle-out.
Your rails looked widened already... Were they previously widened when you bought this ski or did you do it yourself?

I am looking for more ideas on this topic, currently I plan on using Balsa Wood Core and just cutting it to length...

nope im original owner since 96. Bobob ill take pics of the liner this afternoon. It wasnt all that hard to do, except take stock liner out. All u do is take some cardboard box, stuff it in there in the shape u want, and put ducktape all over it. The resin wont stick to the duck tape, I used on layer of plain ole fiberglass matting from auto parts store, then a layer of fiberglass cloth, put the first layer in let it setup then pull the mold off the duck tape, and do your other layer. Im probaly going to redue it 2, Im thinking it would b strong with one or two layers of carbon fiber cloth, and keep the weight down, it still has a lil flex in the hood from the side, but i think after i chop the hood down some itll b stronger.

well im officialy fully bore on my winter build got all the turf removed and sanded down, After removeing all the turf, with the footholds , oneway valve, exhaust tube and aluminum pump shoe, she came in at 106.4 pds. Thats 15 extra pounds with turf, and all the brackets in. I got the footholds cut out, and may i add, the roto zips work great, and its amazing how well the two part foam glues the holds in. The blowsion foot holds r very well built as much prying i had to do to theme to pull theme out. The exhaust side footholds came out easier im guessing from the heat, i used a 4 in grinder with cut off wheel, to cut out the tray bottom and sides. I went a lil to far forward as youll c in pics, but itll b ok got plenty of glassing to do anyways. Im gonna use and electric die grinder with a wire wheel to defoam cuts through it like butter

well i started the fun task of removeing foam not lol. Its definately not as easy as i thought even with a wire wheel on a grinder, the crap gets everywhere its just as easy to use a big screwdriver and break out big pieces, There was wet foam in different areas, like round the pump inserts, and ride plate and intake grate inserts. Figured ive got plenty of time not gonna get in a big hurry.
