9inch crack down the side

Repair as needed!
I feel pretty lucky actually. I've gotten by for several years of only having reinforcement under the pole mount area and in the front hood seal lip area. The sides have never been reinforced. Sure, theres light spider cracks all over, but nothing that broke through.
I have had plenty of side splats, rough landings, and broken the nose off a few times hitting bottom. But last weekend the surf was nice & I under rotated a roll and really slapped the side hard. I know the bilge was running more than normal, but could not see the damage. When we went in I saw it. Luckily someone had some duct-tape so I was able to get in 1 more session witht the crack taped up.

Pulled out the gastank, battery, B pipe chamber, & waterbox and ground down the area to repair. Taped up the crack on the outside.
I was not planning on glassing the outside, because, well, I don't want to paint just yet. Full reinforcement, defoaming, and new paint will have to wait untill after Daytona.

Next I cut out all the pieces of cloth I want to use. I cut out lots of small strips to wet out and lay into the bond rail area, insted of filling with kittty hair or foam.
I wetted out the cloth a little different this time. I mixed the epoxy and started with largest to smallest wetting out each piece and stacking them wet on an old street sign I have. It was MUCH easier and quicker than laying each piece and wetting out on the hull! I could not take a picture of the process, since I had epoxy all overy my latex gloved hands. Imagine a stack of wet fiberglass cloth on a metal sign. :shrug:

I use 14.4 oz S-glass I get from thayercraft by the yard. I use US Composits' cheapest gallon jugs of their 'house' brand epoxy. It works great and is VERY cheap compared to name brand epoxy.

Next, I paint 1 thick layer of epoxy on the area that I am going to lay the wet glass cloth that is stacked on hte sign.
The I start slinging glass. I start with the smallest pieces first working to the bottom of the stack to the biggest piece that covers it all up.

Then, once it's cured tomorrow I take the 36grit and go over the whole repair area to knock down any sharp edges that are left.
Good enough for a 4 night repair to ride the following weekend. DONE!

Disclaimer: yes, I know there may be 10 thigs I could have done differently or better. This was a quick fix to get back on the water without missing a weekend.

looks like a good repair. hade a crack like that only longer. but my repair didn´t look as nice

Thanks for posting! I need to fix a very similar crack in my hull. I've been riding with it gorilla-taped for about 10 rides now.

Getting ready for the surf last night, I noticed a broken motor mount. (I also had unexplained bilge pump running) Pulled the pipe to replace front mounts and WTF my hull was cracked like that right where I had bandaided up under rail cracks with epoxy putty the night before another ride and forgot about it.
