Post Op Day 47: No More Sad Sack
Finally, it isn't oh woe-is-me talk, right?
Visited the surgeon and physical therapy yesterday and blew them away with how far along I am. My bone is growing back, going to keep my screws though. Kinda like 'em. The coverage is SO much more! My musculature has waned quite a bit, that's where that initial 15 lbs of weight loss went the first two weeks after surgery.
I was able to walk for the first time yesterday, under the supervision of PT. Walked better without the crutches than with, fancy that! Not even a limp, even the therapist rolled her eyes haha. Yay for high protein keto and an iron will of working out a few hours every day. They say only 25% weight-bearing for this week, then 50%, 75%, etc as the weeks progress. I think they are just pulling CYA, I could walk now unaided. Pain doesn't bother me so much, but the problem is knowing good pain vs. bad pain so I'll play it....mostly...safe. My home gym has really progressed during this time. Added bands, dumbells, and kettlebells. Developing some killer back muscles and working on my grip so I can join a rock gym once I get back to work.
Speaking of work, I'll get back to my collision center parts department June 24. Can't. Freaking. Wait! I drive a manual so that should be fun, of course, the surgery was on my clutch leg.
My right hip is bothering me now. Preeeeeety sure it is nice and torn after supporting all of my weight for the last 6 weeks. Pops, grinds, hurts, catches - all the good stuff. Not enough short term disability and Leave left from my company, so I'll have to wait a year and let it roll over before considering a second PAO. My team has been doing a great job, but tough when the manager is gone for a whole 8 weeks! Looks like MRI and probably cortisone (hate them) shots are in my future. Right knee makes an audible grinding sound when bending and it has gotten worse with stressing the leg.
I guess good and bad news is I will be able to ride a stand up, start running, and returning to normal weight lifting 6 months from now. Damn that is a long time! Cool thing is it will be right on my birthday so I'm going to party on my new 550! Picked it up from a local friend for cheap, runs, rides, all the good stuff. Let some friends ride it a few weeks ago and it never missed a beat after sitting for years. Pretty neat.
Anyway. Still super bored, just writing articles, researching, and brainstorming ideas. Taking care of my reptiles, fully into breeding and hatching season now. Ready to get back out into the world again. Really appreciate everyone encouraging me through this process, far from over, but everything helps!
