a few epoxy questions for the expieranced

Does the 2 part epoxy give off the same amount of fumes as the resin/ mekp?

Where do you guys do your glassing?

what is the lowest temp you can use Epoxy?

The reason i am asking is i always used epoxy resin and Mekp but it smells awful and i can't use it in the garage. The Temp out side is like 35* i would just do it on the porch but the temp won't allow me to. so can i use the two part stuff in the basement? (i am doing rear exhaust for an x-2 and foot holds for an SJ) Does it give off the same kind of fumes? i heard it didn't but i havn't played with it yet.

No the two part epoxy does not give off the kind of fumes the Polyester resin does, I think you will be fine , just remember to use adequate ventilation regardless of which type of resin and use gloves, you don't want that stuff on your skin.

will polyester resin work on the SJ?

Nope...

I've found that it will work - ok - on the Kawis, but for the SJ you want to use Epoxy or Vinyl ester. Best way to do it is get the West System Epoxy 105 resin and 205 hardener. They also make a pump system that will give you the exact amount needed for each with one squirt!

Funny that you started this thread... I just went and bought more resin and hardener yesterday...

About the only thing I still use Poly resin for is making molds, its fairly cheap and it doesn't stick like epoxy does making it easier to separate the mold from the original part.

This is the cheapest 2 part epoxy I have found. It works great and does not smell.

Epoxy with 3:1 Ratio Medium Epoxy Hardener
EPOX-635314 - 1Gallon - 42.6oz $61.00

Keep your epoxy inside so it will be warm & wet out the cloth easier. Cold molassas like epoxy will not wet out the cloth well at all.
