ADA head install

Purchased a jetmaniac Ada girdled head and want to install it on my 62t motor. My motor is complete and running but out of the ski currently. I am concerned with the install only because I don't want to mess up/cause an air leak in the base gasket. Also, are there any special tools that I need? Can anyone walk me through so I don't screw it up?

Remove your stock head first, and leave the cylinder base bolts in place. This will allow you to use a deadblow hammer or similar to break the stock headgasket seal. Clean your head mating surfaces. Now you can remove your base bolts. As long as you're careful you will be fine, it takes some force to break the cylinder loose from the gasket bond if it hasn't been apart before. As for a stud tool - you can easily do this job by "double-nutting" two normal (non-acorn) nuts against one another at the top of the stud, and thread the stud into the case this way.

Best of luck, it is a pretty easy job overall.

Also, you can add a small bead of 1211 or similar where the stud goes through the cylinder, to prevent corrosion from occurring and giving you issues later. JetManiac/Blue do this on their motors, makes removing the studs later very pain free!

^What he said.
As long as you don't disturb the base gasket when removing the base bolts you should be fine.

That's what I needed to hear! Thanks man, makes me feel better. I think the motor has been apart before but it's been re-done very well and not by just some guy lol. Looks like this will be my project for
tomorrow!

Like said earlier. Just remove the head and clean it up before removing the base bolts. It takes some force to disturb the gasket.

take out all but two opposite bolts. put the new head on with the new girdle bolts and tighten them. then take out the other stock case bolts to ad the rest of the girdle bars.

piece of cake!

Ok install I think went well however ran into 2 snags. Being a 62t cylinder, I needed to make clearance for 2 exhaust side studs, that was the only real difficult issue but got through it!!!

Do yourself a favor. Assume that doing the job will loosen the base gasket. Buy what you need to pressure test a motor with the money youd save on blowing up your motor.

I did this job. I was careful not to disturb the base gasket. However, i 4-point seized a piston after. Its very possible that i already had a case leak on my 10 year old salt water motor before hand, and it was unnoticable stock and putting a pipe, head, etc on it all at once cranked enough extra power to make that tiny leak a problem. After the stuck piston, the motor was tested befor disassembly and it had leaks. I didnt test it and the person doing the work for me didnt say exactly. Regardless, there is no way to know if the leak started before or after.

What i learned however, is even if you are doing a non-girlded head, its a good idea to leak test older motors before adding a bunch of high power parts. For the money spent on 2 pistons, a bore and gaskets, i could have bought the stuff to test it with plenty of money left over. And, even if you do have to replace the base gasket, you should leak test ater a rebuild anyway.

Motor was completely fresh when I bought it with my ski last season, rode it a couple times then added the b-pipe and jets. This year is same motor, new hull and adding/added the head.

I think it's fun slapping go fast parts on a tired ass Vxr pro or wr3 motor and seeing how long it lasts.

The ones you never expect to run usually last the longest.

Or they grenade real bad and make for good pictures to share in the carnage section.
