Adding foam to a SJ

I just bought my '96 SJ last Sunday and I have only ridden it about two hours. One of the first things I noticed is how far the rear sets up and how hard it is to push down, compared to my 650. This great for me being that I am ~190lbs, but if I could get more lift it would help. I have been searching the forums and I found a thread about adding foam to the rear through two holes in the engine compartment. I have looked and I don't really see the holes. Can someone direct me to them?

Thanks
Brent

The holes are in the bulkhead, covered by paper stickers.
There is already foam in there - they come that way.

If it's too heavy, it may be waterlogged. Do a search on "refoaming".
It's a pretty serious task.

I don't think the foam is water logged. The ski feels light and floats great, but with me on the back it can sink fast. So there is no way to spray greatstuff in the holes for more flotation?

that area already is filled w/ foam...dont use greatstuff...two part expanding foam is what you want

Negligible amounts of foam can be added to help like you are asking...

Either the foam is wet, or there are voids in the foam (which is highly unlikely, but possible).

"It can sink fast" is relative not quantitative. Is there another ski near you with which you can compare weights?

Pull open the waist band of your trunks and spray the foam in.

OK thanks guys that answers my question. I don't believe there is anything wrong with the ski. I just thought if there was something simple I could do to help off set my size then I would do it.

michael950,
Unfortunately there is not another SJ another for me to compare it to. I just bought the ski from Shonuff, I am sure he would know how it compares.

Thanks

Yep. Adding foam would actually increase the weight and make it float less.
Yeah I guess I did not think it through. The air trapped in there will float better than the foam I would add. I just read it and thought I would look into it.

No worries. The foam is only there for structural support and if the ski sinks the foam will occupy space so that water can not fill that space thus keeping the ski afloat.

I have been in the middle of the lake holding on to my X2 below the surface as I keep it from sinking. Not a fun thing to do. Damn exhaust coupler. I guess it needed all that foam on the stock bars.
