Adding Fuel Filter?

A week ago I experienced fuel starvation in my FX-1 and was towed back to the launch ramp.

It was fuel starvation. There was about 3/16" of debris in the fuel filter in the carburetor.

Not anywhere totally obstructed but enough to cause a tow home at the end of a good day.

I replaced the gaskets etc. in the carburetor last night and today the ski performed flawlessly.

I had previously replaced the stock fuel/water separator (oem fuel filter) .

Now I want to add a fuel filter.

Do you recommend adding a fuel filter?

If so, what is a good fuel filter?

I use the Little clear ones Jetmaniac sells, one for each fuel line to the carbs.

You might have a look in the bottom of your fuel tank and verify it’s clean as well

I will order those from JM.

The fuel tank is clean. I took it out and washed it out then dried it out in the Sun a month ago.

It was the oem blue vent line which lets air into the tank which has the check valve in it which was deteriorating. I replaced it with blue Fast Flow Fuel Line up to the air water separator. But I will take the tank out and replace it all the way up to the inlet bulb in the pole.

I run the stock filter on my ski's. It also has a water seperator.

@fx1mark I also run the oem stock filter/water separator recently replaced in our skis, but somehow over 26 or 27 years some debris got past them in both the FX-1 and the SN SJ to clog the in-carb fuel filter. More likely debris from the deterioration of the inside of the oem fuel line and fuel tank vent lines.

My carb rebuild interval has been ~25 years.

I hope to extend that interval to ~50 years by adding the JM inline 80 micron fuel filter in each ski.

SXRs have fuel filters on the tank pickups. Keeps most of the crap from ever getting in the lines. No water separator or other nonsense they put in the 90s skis.

That being said, I found a dog hair and few pieces of sand in my carb filters after only checking them once in 1200 hours of runtime.
