I'm having trouble keeping the turf on my rails on my ski and its killing me buying little bottles of superglue and they only last about 12 inches. Whats another good, inexpensive adhesive that will work well from a local hardware store. How's the Weldwood contact cement? or the Gorilla glue?

what did you use to glue them on before?
With a good prep job and good Weldwood contact cement, it won't come off at all. The lack good coarse grit sanding (36grit) is usually why it comes off.......

I was actually getting ready to ask you how the rails were holding up on that ski. Lesson learned.... PSA on turf sucks for anything that isn't perfectly flat. Harder to install and less effective. Maybe I can peel the PSA off the turf that I have for my ski.

Sorry man...

It was the PSA crap. I bought a roll of blacktip turf for his ski and mine with PSA since non PSA was special order. I'll special order non PSA from now on but I do like the speediness and designs of the blacktip turf.

PSA is the self-adhesive type turf?

PSA = Pressure Sensitive Adhesive

Use the non-PSA stuff. The best contact cement is DAP Weldwood contact cement in the RED can. Rough up the ski before applying, nothing finer than 60 grit.

Coat the turf...then coat the ski...coat the turf again...let dry until tacky but not stringy...apply....smack with a hammer...chamfer bottom of rail edges with a razor knife...done.

It's just popping up in random spots, nothing super serious. Just sucks b/c every little spot that pops up is a little bottle of superglue. I just figured I'd upgrade my glue and go with something different and see if it works. It's no problem at all though!

i have had good luck with gorrilla glue. the crappy glue blowsion sends with thier tubbies wouldn't hold the inserts to the hull. everytime i tighten the tubbies down they broke loose. i gorrilla glued the inserts to the hull and have never had a problem.

contact cement all the way. I put a coat on the turf and hit with the heat gun and let is soak in and repeat a couple times until its pretty thick on there. Also sanding the contact surfaces and wiping the dust off with some acetone to give you a clean surface helps a little too with the bonding.

yea use that dap gel formula for the job. I have had awesome results from the loctite marine gel superglue for small "pop-up" problem areas but couldnt imagine doing big areas with it considering its almost $5 a bottle!
