Adjusting Steering so it's straight

Hey all --

Has anyone noticed that if you adjust the steering nozzle to be exactly straight when the handlebars are exactly straight that when you ride you have to turn the bars slightly to the right to keep the boat going straight when going fast in a straight line?

Does it have something to do with the way the water comes out of the pump or something? I feel like to get this thing to be dead on straight with the bars that I'll have to adjust the nozzle a tiny bit to one side so that it runs straight?

I've noticed that too, still need to compensate

Check your intake grate ribs are straight and the scoop isnt bent or twisted or have chunks out of it, it can do this after to many rocks/sand . I was having same prob and noticed the scoop wasn't square to the hull

Hm, I've always noticed this just a tiny bit in SuperJets so thats why I was wondering what others had to say.

Thanks for the picture.. Thats really interesting it was causing that much of a problem. I'll check mine tonight.

Cable slack. Rider position. Hull imperfections. Weight imbalances in the ski.

I think I might have realized what was causing this problem to be worse now that I've posted the other post about the ride plate bolts. The two front ride plate bolts were hanging out and were bent causing weird drag. I'm pretty sure that must have been a large contributor to the problem. I'll get that fixed up, set the nozzle to be dead straight again and try again.

I never thought about checking the intake grate so that was a good tip - as well as the last post about hull imperfections, etc.

I've noticed this more on my 300sx than my superjet. It could partially be from torque from the engine rotation/impeller, it is why engines are mounted at a slight angle in single engine aircraft

I thought the pump veins were designed to mitigate this effect on jet skis.

Ive noticed mine you hold slightly right. Im not running a intake grate so i know that isn't an issue. Could is be the battery making ski lean and we have to compensate? I use the walmart battery in all my skis minus my BOB. thats like 14lbs i think

I think you have a valid point though. Your torque is going to vary as you ride, but the pump veins are static. There has to be some degree of torque induced roll.

I used to notice this with my superjet when I had the oem pump. I now have a 12 vane Solas pump in my ski, aside from the increased hookup, my ski is so much more stable and rides straighter, I think it has to do with the mag pumps having more vanes and doing a much better job straighting the water out before it leaves the back of the pump.

I picked up my Solas pump from Watcon. It's been in my ski and only used in salt water for little over a year, it's been one of the best purchases Ive ever made.

Yeah make it point a little to the left. a lot of it has to do with body position riding the hull and where you apply pressure. It happens at slow and fast speeds.
