Advent ignition with a lightened flywheel???

i dont see why not. they want you to use an oem due to the magnet strength/timing. a lightened 62t f/w is still an oem as far as magnet strength goes. id ask Jr. or SUPERTUNE to be sure though.

Thanks for all the replies, I was actually worried that the Advent would be tuned specifically to the weight of the oem flywheel. With the lightened wheel it is easier for the engine to rev, wonder if this would affect the ignition regarding the timing.

that wont matter. what the vilder said is that the magnetic feild is altered when lightened and not to use it....then, the next sentence says to buy the vilder flywheel,, i think its a marketing plea though

The magnetic field is most definetely not altered by lightening a flywheel. The AM charging flywheels use different magnets than OEM - that's the problem.

tbm uses the advent with his lightend flywheel an it works great.....i have a few friends that run the advent with lite flys on their sj also(coung is one of them).they rip..........

Aftermarket flywheels, or lightened oem? They did not use to work with the Rads. The lightened oem will be fine. One the flip side, an MSD enhancer will work with the Rad flywheel. Greg had no explanation. Kinda like the enhancer also working with both 61x and 62t stators, where as the Advent won't. Another one Greg can't fix and doesn't have a good answer for.

I have heard of it not working with the RAD Flywheel however I didnt know about the 61x stator. Both my stator and wheel are 62T so it is all good :woot:.
I currently have an enhancer however, I heard that the Advent was much better when it came down to timing curves and overall performance.

Yes, Your good with lightening a 62T Flywheel. Sometimes if you run race/av gas compression ratio's, you might need to set the idle up a tad if you run a lighter flywheel. I won't use any aftermarket flywheels. Unless I'm running a MSD-TL system.

Interested in what people are finding here? I have a RAD flywheel that doesn't work with the Advent, might ship it to Gregg to have him look at its magnetic properties to see if he can get it to work. Works great with the MSD enhancer but I prefer to run an Advent. Sent an email to TBM asking if their Flywheel will work with an Advent but still haven't received a response.
