the aluminum 440s were talked about in adifferent post.

anyway here is a pick of one next to a cast iron 550. both are ported and you should be able to see that the transfers on the aluminum 440 are much larger and cut up into the sleeve. also the profile of these is different and they had 2 extra head bolts so they are not hard to spot.

depending on how far you go with the porting they can be really loud! the motor i put together for me is so loud i have to use ear plugs when i ride it but it is FAST! That green motor me and my kid did for her 40 is not to bad but not nearly as fast.

hahahahahhaahhahahaha thats freakin hilariously awesome!! Thats when you know you got a bad ass ski, when you gotta ware ear pluggs! I love it, and I want myski that fast!! A guy let me drive his 750 at the lake first stand up I ever drove just last week it was cool and had some nice power

The old racers used to press out the 440 sleeves and put 550s in there. The aluminum cylinder would most likely have better cooling as well. I have a 78 440 that has the aluminum cylinder and it was bone stock when we got it. I like how they put dual ring pistons in these motors from factory. I put a kerker style pipe and a sbn44 on with a skat prop, and it out runs my 550. You can really get these skis to rip with the right parts
