Just get the right die for it and it'll still work just fine.

The photo is out of focus but it looks okay. Find a fine single-cut 60° triangular file and chase the damaged area until it looks clear and your new coupler threads on with ease.

I've used a metal saw blade to fix hacked up threads on a budget to remove burs, etc.

Best tool would be a metric rethread file that comes in some T&D sets.

I use these at work to do minor thread repairs like yours all the time, they work perfectly. I'm sure Harbor Freight sells something similar.

I'd use a file and get it over with (preposition at the end- is that legal? ). However, should the op have poor eyesight, he might consider the above mentioned metric thread file. Here are some pics, now you know the thread pitch:

Just an update, the small fine triangular file worked perfect! Coupler is on and worked very well! Thanks again to all who had suggestions!
