Your tool probably just needs a set of carbon brushes - might be able to get another 5 years out of it for just a couple bucks!
Does it turn on when you whack it against the workbench? aka will it "bump start" lol

The wire inside the power cords on these also tend to break internally at the back of the tool due to vibration and articulation.

How critical is it to remove ALL of the turf/old glue - as in down to bare fiberglass? like if the surface is smooth and nothing comes off easily is that "good enough"?

Yes,it was bump starting, but it won’t do anything now.l’ll take it apart and check it out.Appreciate the info!

l would tell you on the removal that it’s best to get all the glue off.But a few small spots here and there won’t hurt.l’ve been trying a couple different “sanding” discs.Nylon fiber one and a funky glue removal disc (has these short hard rubber nubs) used on headliners to get the glue off without damaging the cover. They won’t dig into the glass like a rough sanding disc does. Then just go over the entire area lightly with like 36 grit.Hope that helps

Part of replacing the turf on the Rocket was to check under the tray for leaks. And how much,if any water was in it.Much to my surprise there wasn’t any saturation of the foam. After ScottS and brappadoodle’s hulls were full,l expected mine to be the same.l took some core samples from a few different spots all the way to the bottom of the hull, bone dry.
Refilled the holes with 4 lb foam and then covered with 2 layers of 1708 biax over the glass l cut out.

This weekends plan is to start making templates and get some padding down..

Not so much a work of art Scott (thank you though),just another turf job.You always have mistakes,it’s just how well you can hide them ;) This ski came here with a small leak

*And white turf sucks…

Off to a good start.Got the template cut and first layer of pad cut.The Rocket will have close to 2” of padding when done, plus turf.Got a package from the Foam Factory about a week ago. This included .25”,19 & 26 mil thick pad.l used the 26 mil as the base layer and haven’t decided what to use (probably 26ml) next.Used this same foam on a couple skis.Same quality as ht.

l like to start by cutting the tray pad first, then setting it aside. Then the sides, the dash, and finish with the bottom. That covers any mistakes that was made during the process by doing the bottom last.Sides sometimes get thin padding and then turfed over.Just depends on the ski and footholds.l used to put some padding right in front of the holds on SF’s.Bad place to heat and mold. And will tear in a heartbeat in the process.Padding is your friend.
Trying a glue pot out this weekend l borrowed and hope it will work better.A few reasons, less wasted glue, spray a little a time and glue as you go.Anyone who has turfed before knows once it stuck,it’s stuck. The glue is still weldwood but thinner, and used on headliners. It’s badazz

Some pics from today. That first pic is showing 1 coat sprayed and how you can control where the glue goes.Did the same on the ski.Decided to switch it up by wrapping the top of the gunwale with molded diamond, then adding smooth down to the foothold track.Lots of experimenting today with the spray on glue.Spent about a half a day on the one side. The other side will go faster. Then can start on the dash.Less smell with spraying and drys faster. But have to cover up a lot more cause of the overspray. And it sticks quite well.
And that small piece that is in the front of the footwell will get trimmed tomorrow.Better when it’s dry

What part numbers or product of undermat did you order from foam factory? They have quite a selection on their website

Got the other side done today.Which went a lot quicker.Everything l cut for the right side transferred over to the left side from the patterns.Started the foam on the dash and then quit.Mother’s day ya know!
The glue pot and spraying the glue was great once l figured out a few things.Application was 1 light coat and one a bit heavier.Dry to the touch in about 10 minutes. Not for the 1-2 turf jobs if you’re a do-it-yourself person.l’m able to have one cause my son and l both do auto uph work.He started learning to do headliners last year and is pretty good at it.

Looking good.

Is that a void between the upper and lower havles of the hull? Would be a good time to fill it.

The 2 halves of that hull seperated at the back of the tray when I owned that hull.
