Another gopro mounting thread

So I got my first gopro up and going last weekend, and I was using the chest mount. Worked awesome for a day, did some inverted tricks, never moved at all and felt super stout. Next day when I was just fooling around, my arm or pole bumped it and the clip came right out and the gopro sank to the bottom of the lake...

After losing your first camera, you start to think of every single possible worst scenario so it never happens again. The reason I'm posting this thread is because I haven't seen much said about the chest mount, and I really do enjoy the view. The only con of the chest mount is that you can't use a floaty backdoor, but you can easily attach something else to make it float too I'm sure.

I personally do not trust those clips that snap into the mounts at all anymore. My plan is to take the chest mount I have, and bolt something like this on it(made out of aluminum, sure as hell isn't going to break easy like the plastic)

You could mount the lanyard right when you screw that knob on, but I think that something like this is even better. I would then put the lanyard around a strap on my life vest.

Then you would attach something like this to make sure it floats(You can't use the floaty backdoor due to the chest mount angle)

With that kind of setup, I'd say it would be fairly fool proof. Thoughts?

Otherwise I've thought of going with a helmet mount but I'd probably use the adhesive, a lanyard, and a floaty backdoor and there wouldn't be much to worry about, but I love the chest mount..It's just more prone to getting messed up!!
Someone should convince me why the chest mount sucks and then I'll switch to a helmet mount which would be so much easier.. There's no way in hell I'm losing another camera!!!

Get a lanyard for it like the one @Profound-Dynamics was making I did a nose stab earlier this year broke the mount on the nose and my go pro was there hanging still, same when my helmet clipped a tree on the go pro

FYI the orange "go pro" floatys are garbage to me

I hate the view of the chest mount I pefer nose on ski or side of helmet slightly back both views get a better view of your body English and still get a good view of what your doing

The best thing I have ever done with mine is using the wrist strap. Use some spare turf make a flat mount for your helmet face guard. Wrap the wrist mount around the face guard. Don't go anywhere

Does things to makes the do goods
Shoe laces. Cheap, adjustable length, everyone has them. Best tethers ive ever used. Just tie one end between the case and pivot bolt and tie off the other end somewhere secure. Only way youll lose it is if your case actually breaks at the pivot neck.

Chest mount works great, but my favorite view is the chin helmet mount like sopro mounts does. U can make one pretty easy with some zipties and an elbow bracket. The one i made is still holding up great, i just zip tie it to my helmet and shoelace tether it.

Yeah I don't think that'd work good for getting inverted. Looks really easy to break on a roll or stab gone wrong..
