My suggestion - J-B Weld and no extra rivets. I've gone 6 years like that on mine.

The J-B strengthens the entire setup and gives more surface contact.

Ouch though, you didn't get hurt when it let go did you?

You are right. Done correctly, the rivets are only there to clamp until the adhesive cures. A limiting rope does wonders too. Another good time to have a lanyard also. The cable can go wide open once the pole is broken. Same reason rick roy poles have the threaded rod. Ugly!
 
That comes from REMOVING the hood too many times in one day or from trying to JAM yourself between the pole and the hood on a nose stab re-entry LOL ! I seen that last one in the surf on saturday , REMEMBER MAT ?

Yea it was shortened and it was cracked. I just kept putting rivets in it to buy myself another ride. And the on the last nose stab of the day heading in to the ramps.........she exploded.

I'm thinking AC now. I want to be able to use my pole pad.
