Custom/Hybrid Answers to some of your questions - truth about light hulls

I am considering (strongly) to further enhance my freestyle capabilities. I spoke with a dealer (Q8, RRP, Bun, etc) about my current platform (RN SJ+ ported 727 with bolt ons)
and this is what I got. Hopefully it will answer some of our questions, especially about BF with "stock" motors:

"To be honest, at the moment a many hull designers are explaining that with their hull the back flip is possible with the original engine without modifications.
That is not lied. With the new X-FS, the Q8 Air and the Wabuzun hull this is definitively possible.
But you have to be a very good or even professional driver like Lee Stone or Rick Roy to handle this.
I personally suggest to all “normal drivers” to use at least 140 hp with these hulls and 160 hp with an FS-2 or similar hulls.
That means I suggest a 4 or 8 mm stroker engine.
Then you will have almost guaranteed success.
If you use engines with less power it is depending more from your technique.
Let me say, the less good or skilled you are, the more power you need.
Or let me say: A lot power helps definitively to do the back flip.
But this is only true for the back flip, not for many other jumps like Barrel Roll, Monkey Jump, etc. etc. These tricks are working perfect with 100 hp.
And remember: If you use a Q8 or X-FS, etc, hull, then it is made for jumps only. You will have no fun with other tricks.

So it is your decision what you make. I only do not want you to sell a hull and promise that you will be able to do this trick with your engine.

If I where you, I would build in this engine in a good hull and then try some jumps. I am sure, if you will not succeed within one season, you will call me at the end of the season and ask for a stronger engine.
But this way you give time to yourself to train with the new hull. Every hull is different and you will need some time to get used to it, no matter to which one.
You will have time to train the setting up of your pre wave for some jumps."

Hopefully some of the real riders can chime in (as I am a true amateur in comparison to them).
Take care! Happy Thanskiging!

I wonder about those engine powers.. not sure whether 140 is a lot or not. Base Yami 73, add few things (bolt ons - head, pipe, reeds, ignition) you get 100-110... then maybe change to big bore, e.g stock stroke 845cc range..whould this yield 140-160 hp? Are stroker motors better in delivering higher hp outputs than same cc stock stroke?

Just dont know where to go with the stuff I have... nice healthy 727cc in a SJ (my SJ is really light - defoamed, light hood, small tank, etc... change to light hull and short...how much of an advantage will changin bring to my skills? I would like to start showing more "aerial" tricks, but to be honest I feel SJ is looong when leaving the water, unless you hit perfect wakes all the time. Short is the answer but how short from a SJ: -2, -5, or -7...

I am asking all this since it is impossible to try out any hull in Poland, other than a SJ or SXR...appreciate honesty :)

a trip to Daytona would be lovely but taking into consideration travel expenses and such it would be 50% of my "hull budget"...I live in Poland.....not exactly around the block... :(

I was hoping that a short hull with freestyle specs (wide tray, rocker nose, handlpole pivot point, set back pump - as most of them are offered nowadays) MUST do a better job even with a shaitty little engine I have... maybe I am hoping for that BF too much..maybe that is not the key.. don't know never seen anybody flip or BR live, nevver ridden a hull for that. I've ridden powerful skis tho...(SS SXR's)

I know that you lived in Poland and also know that if you look around (don't use Okecie as your starting point), you can fly there and back for less than the price of an aftermarket hood.

I could never buy a hull without riding one first, it's just too much of an investment.

Come ride a Superfreak, it will backflip with a small motor but thats no fun...Light hulls with 1000cc plus makes them real fun...

Boris is spot on, your crazy not to come to Daytona & demo a few boats.... Its hard to spend your hull budget on a hull you hate, I would start booking airfare to Daytona

At the gravel pits? I used to live near Lane end: about 5 miles from Marlow. I know the gravel pits well: we used to waterski there. Went to school at Borlase.

For sure! I may see you in Daytona - haven't decided if I'll be going yet. I'll be back home at the end of January. (Sorry for the thread-jack!)
