I am considering (strongly) to further enhance my freestyle capabilities. I spoke with a dealer (Q8, RRP, Bun, etc) about my current platform (RN SJ+ ported 727 with bolt ons)
and this is what I got. Hopefully it will answer some of our questions, especially about BF with "stock" motors:
"To be honest, at the moment a many hull designers are explaining that with their hull the back flip is possible with the original engine without modifications.
That is not lied. With the new X-FS, the Q8 Air and the Wabuzun hull this is definitively possible.
But you have to be a very good or even professional driver like Lee Stone or Rick Roy to handle this.
I personally suggest to all “normal drivers” to use at least 140 hp with these hulls and 160 hp with an FS-2 or similar hulls.
That means I suggest a 4 or 8 mm stroker engine.
Then you will have almost guaranteed success.
If you use engines with less power it is depending more from your technique.
Let me say, the less good or skilled you are, the more power you need.
Or let me say: A lot power helps definitively to do the back flip.
But this is only true for the back flip, not for many other jumps like Barrel Roll, Monkey Jump, etc. etc. These tricks are working perfect with 100 hp.
And remember: If you use a Q8 or X-FS, etc, hull, then it is made for jumps only. You will have no fun with other tricks.
So it is your decision what you make. I only do not want you to sell a hull and promise that you will be able to do this trick with your engine.
If I where you, I would build in this engine in a good hull and then try some jumps. I am sure, if you will not succeed within one season, you will call me at the end of the season and ask for a stronger engine.
But this way you give time to yourself to train with the new hull. Every hull is different and you will need some time to get used to it, no matter to which one.
You will have time to train the setting up of your pre wave for some jumps."
Hopefully some of the real riders can chime in (as I am a true amateur in comparison to them).
Take care! Happy Thanskiging!
