Any know a way to keep XMetal from getting loose?

I just got my new ski and after about 2 hours of riding the handlepole bolts seem to loosen up. They were installed with red loc-tite and really tightened down. Do they make a collar or some kind of set screw for it?

Mine seem to loosen a tad after a couple months, no biggie. Certainly not after 2 hours.

Did you clean the bolts & nuts w/ carb cleaner prior to assembly w/loctite?

Did you install them per instructions? (Nuts on the outside, two nuts per bolt, red loctite, let it cure for 24 hours)

Mine still works loose, but it takes a couple of days of riding before it does. And even then, I just retighten it a bit.

I'm sure they were installed right, Kevin from Legdrag built it.

I've had the ski out twice since I got it on Sun for a total of about 2 hours. Last night when I was coming in it seemed to be getting loose, pole won't stay stiff. I really don't wanna have to take off the nose piece and tighten the bolts every few days if there is a way around it. I'll try the red loctite and let it cure for another 24 hours. Just don't know when I'll have 24 hours to let the ski sit....Not today- I'm going ridin`

Don't take this as a complaint because I am extremely happy with every thing about this ski:Banane01:  :cheer2: :Banane09:

everything except the writing on the bottom of the chinpad:cool2:

i can never seem to get mine to stay tight either. i let my pole dry for well over 24 hours.

:dunno:

i just got used to it that way. it wont bother you after a few more rides.

just some .02

Do you have to tighten it all the time or does it just loosen up enough for the pole not to be stiff?

Look into possible putting a spring on there. There was a thread on this a week or two ago. I'm curious to see if its possible to use a spring with an x-metal.:dunno:

Not sure it is possible but after riding for about a total of 2 hours with a stiffy I'm sold. Have no interest in a spring and I really don't think you can put one anyways without mod.

I still dig a stiff pole......but my bushings are shot and it's impossible to get the pole to stay still. I originally cranked the bracket down for no handed stuff, rolls, nothings, etc. I've realized though that I can do all those things with a loose pole too.

i used to tighten it all the time. it ends up just being tight enough that i can leave it all the way up if i'm working on something, but not tight enough where it will stay wherever you put up.

i used to spend the time to crank the bitch all the way down in the garage, but as soon as i was in the water for 10mins, it'd be loose again. fug it.

So the bolts won't come off? I'm not super worried about the pole staying where I put it, I just don't wanna lose the bolts

I'd be VERY surprised if the bolts fell off. Just a quick visual inspection should let you know if there is a likelyhood of that.

How old are those bushings? new?

I don't run an xmetal pole (rather a UMI), so everything I say is pretty general to all stiff poles.

Bushing are brand new. I havn't been looking at things a whole lot, been worried about getting the ski in the water after work and getting out after it's dark, food then sleep. I think (know) I'm gonna lose some weight if I keep this up:Banane01:

They are gonna loosen up when you ride them because of the water lubricating it. Make it a bit tighter than you want it and when you ride it it should be good. After time and numerous over extensions of the pole it will loosen a bit.

I end up re-tightening mine ever 8-10 rides.

Other option is a straight bolt with a spacer in the center for strenght but that makes tearing the hoses easy.

I had this problem on my last ski, untill i tightened that sucker down, and globbed on enough lock-tite to hold a car together with.....never,ever,ever came loose again. I did let it set for almost 48 hrs before touching it though. Pats poles work awsome, but you do need a ton of red lock-tite if you dont want to have to re-adjust it again.
