Surfriding Any precaution to ride icy water??

Like Tpain said we have rode every week this winter in Wisconsin...even below 32 degrees till throttles and steering froze up. The most important thing is good gear. If you have a really good cold water surf suit and boots, gloves, and hood its even enjoyable. I have an xcel 4/3 drylock and I can comfortably float next to ice chunks lol. Dont worry about restricting cooling. There's absolutely no reason to do that. I have dual cooling on everyone of my skis and friends skis and we have never had a problem. Even on my race bouy skis that get held open all the time no reduction in cooling. If anyone starts telling you about cold seizing from too cold of water, ask them if its ever happened to someone they personally know---very doubtful

I just bought the 5/4 xcel drylock with the felt material inside it is a GREAT suit. Im also wearing the drylock 7mm booties. I have never been so damn toasty in the water, you're right it actually is enjoyable.

To those of you complaining about cold water and water getting inside.. You're wearing complete crap. Not one drop of water should get inside a good, quality suit.

That's what I'm saying and that's why I tried to be clear that you need a good quality suit - better than that crappy Slippery suit everyone wears.

I live in michigan and I rode all year round this year. I wear a 7mm wetsuit, 7mm boots, 3mm gloves (was stupid and ordered 5mm at first. Arm pump like crazy), a 7mm hood without helmet, 3mm with helmet. I have no issues with mobility. I just hate being cold. I would ride for a couple of hours no problem on 40 degree days (air temp). Just try not to fall in icy areas and watch your shins when your walking through/ breaking the ice. Its pretty painful. And if you have turfed rails... your going to need to returf them. I've never restricted my cooling system either. I just let the ski warm up a little bit before taking off. And of course, always ride with a friend.
