Checking to see if we have runners in here? The wife and I both run, I usually do 4 miles before work during the week and work out at home on weekend. The wife mixes running with work out classes throughout the week and works out at home on weekend.

I should probably add I got into this after having a kidney transplant 11/2015 wanted to run my first marathon before my year anniversary of the transplant but ended up hurting my leg out on our property the week before the 5K. Wife ran the race, that was after her donation of a kidney to me.

O go out and start running BK. My endurance is now outstanding. I used an APP couch to 5K and can remember when the first 60 seconds was hard and put me out of breath. Now I look for hills and enjoy changing my routs.

My wife did C25K until her back said no more. No running for me. Knees. That's one reason why I mountain bike. First Knee surgery at age 12. Torn Cartlidge. 2nd on same knee at 27. Doc said stay away from running due to the lack of cartlidge. I did start doing situps the other night. I am bad out of shape. spent past 2 month with a bad sinus infection. Only rode once. Plan to get a ride in Sat Morning.

Even a runner for most of my adult life (military) but now that I'm in my mid 40s I slowed down considerably. I still try to get in about 10-15 miles a week. Also been real lucky not to have any major issues with my knees and ankles.

Good to hear stories like yours. My wife had major back surgery about 4 years ago and was able to walk a 10k a year after.

Ive always wanted to enjoy running more, but I guess my lack of self discipline to consistently exercise really kills all of that!

Runner here, run about 20 miles a week. It used to hurt but as your muscles strengthen, your joints hurt less.

One of my favorite books is "Born to run". Doctors told him he shouldn't run also, but he refused to quit, searched out the greatest runners in the world and shadowed them for years, leaning their way of life.

Doctors don't want you to run, they want you to feel hurt and need to visit them often.

In reality, we run to stay alive, run to catch food, run to impress someone to run away with and procreate more runners. Our bodies are intricate suspension systems with muscles other primates do not have that stabilize our legs and head. All running mamals besides humans are restricted to one breath per stride, except for humans.

Just did my first marathon on October 29th. I will say training for it made my jogs more of a job than a fun stress free experience. I am glad I did it, but don't know if I will ever do another one.
Now I just enjoy 3-5 mile slow jogs with the wife.

Dont agree with the comment about Doctors dont want you to run, they want you to visit them.... Both of mine recommended not to run due to the impact. My Current one said the same. But suggested strength training short term. Then maintain by Mountain Biking since that was something I like to do anyhow. Have not been to him for knee issues in over 10 years........ He also prefers you do extensive PT before he ever starts taking about surgery........ Guess what, I have not had surgery in 20 years.

Congrats on your first marathon! I cold never do this. I hate timing my self. I just open the door and start running, no route or time planned. I normally end up on the beach.

Im a runner to, but its only one discipline i have to do. I do Triathlon so i have to swimm and bike to. But the mix is very good. Im good on my roadracebike and a good swimmer but not the best runner

Good point that I missed. Between days that I run I ride my bike about 15 or so miles. It helps my body recover between runs and it actually helps my run times.

I ran way too much when I was younger and like everything I committed too much time and energy to it. If you want to get faster and better at running do dead lifts and bench press.

I enjoying running... I have slowed down a lot and started working distances. I don't run as much as I would like but will do a couple half marathons next year. My record time for a 5k run is 17:40 about 11 years ago. I came close at a 18:46 a year ago. I'd have to look at my 10k times, but I know I did 8.25 miles in 1:08 a couple weeks ago.

I enjoy trotting with the dog nowadays(1-5 miles). I ran a half marathon at age 21 and again at 30(I'm 32 now). 21 I trained for months and had a 7:40 average mile. 30 I trained for 3 weeks and had a 8:30 average mile. All I did for working out that summer was Jet Skiing!

I practice running on my (forefront) toes at all costs. Once you're in shape there is nothing better than prancing along on your toes. It decreases the strain on your knees because you have two joints handling the load instead of just heel pounding. I love my Saucony lightweight shoes. Less between you and ground also.

I road biked a lot at ages 19-21. I still enjoy hoping on my dad's 1973 Sekai and putting down 30 miles.

Running Sucks, Biking is Boring, go ride your Jet Ski fools!

I run mainly for stress relief, I'm not fast but it's quiet and I'm by myself for the time I'm out..... I mix it up between 3k sprint to 10km endurance runs I time my self on a gps watch and try to beat my previous time even if it's a couple seconds. I started doing this 1.5 years ago, I've lost 60lbs and my back pain gone! The best part is my wife caught on she's lost 40lbs and she's hot AF. We also acquired a personal trainer that works with us.

Agreed! The quiet time is the best. Tune out and just enjoy being outside. I am a tax accountant and sitting in a cube all day long staring at a computer gets blah.

This is why I love sitting in my tree stand all day Deer Hunting. I feel bad even checking my phone, so nice to just sit with nature doing nothing! It's amazing how much the forest comes alive when you're not walking around making noise. I had a Chickadee almost land on my head this year, the past two years Great Horned Owls have perched in the tree right next to me. If there's snow you can see the mice running around the forest floor, they make more sound than the darn deer!
