I haven't tried a chain wench yet but I had a lot more leverage on there with that 4' screw drive. when I can get back at it we are going to try the intermediate mid shaft coupler first cause that heat on the engine seal just has me nervous

benefit of chain wrench is that it displaces all the force equally all around the coupler
I bought a 4 foot monkey wrench to remove a coupler off a 787/800 motor i had... n still couldnt get it

I have a 3-4' monkey wrench but was worried that would eat up the aluminum coupler , and with all the torque I have put on them so far I am amazed nothing has broke yet

Midshaft coupler was a PITA to get off... I had to grind that baby off in multiple places... The coupler on the motor I took a different approach which worked... Lubed outer threads around perimeter and let sit for an hour... Grabbed lunch... Came back to shop... got the cylinders on the compressed stroke... Whacked the poop out of it with a hammer... 1 whack Tommy... Came right off... Pumped as during lunch I thought this was going to be another disaster... Zero heat used and only a 16oz. hammer... I believe because I was so pissed off with the midshaft coupler removal that all of my aggression came out with the 1 whack Tommy !!!
I've done the same a few times now, it seems the engine compression is usually enough resistance to knock it off with a dead blow and not have to stick anything in your cylinders. I have also done it with a rope down the spark plug hole but try to avoid that if possible.

I just whacked the piss out of it... 1 dead blow and she came loose with ease... Midshaft was another animal... Glad I started with that one first... !!!

I was not sure if the silicone spray was going to work as I did not think it would penetrate inside of the threads... sprayed it big time... left... came back and whacked it... first swing... I was pumped... Midshaft was tougher because the shaft keep spinning... both are off so I am happy... !!!

Anyone ever use AeroKroil? As a plumber I've used it for years, it s the oil that creeps into threads. Great stuff, it would probably work well on crusty couplers.

My buddy matt, who went to marine mechanic school,put rope down the spark plug hole to fill the cylinder, then turn the crank until it compressed the rope, then removed the coupler. Im not sure the exact details, but rope is how they were teaching the professiknals just a few years ago.
