Super Jet Anybody ever use hydro turf for hood seal?

So when I put on my ATP handle pole bracket, it also changed the hood hooks. But the stock seal was too thick to let the lip of the stock hood swing in and seat in the groove of the hull/seal.
I cut up strips of hydro turf to mock up in the groove of the hull. Now the hood swings in just fine.
the hydro turf thickness is .225 in. Which is about the thickest I can use.
so will hydro turf work as a seal, or is their another option.

Might work good for a bit. But turf doesn't have very good memory . Stays compressed after a while . Try it and post results.!!!

hood hooks that come with the atp pole bracket are adjustable so you can adjust the amount of seal your hood does, maybe you just need to play with these a little more

in regards to HT hood seal, they are not very good, using ht itself cant see it will seal, watcon is much better

The Watson website says their seal is thicker than stock. Which is my problem. We have adjusted the hood hooks in so many different places. I just need a thinner seal for the hood lip to have clearance and swing in. I cut the hydro turf into strips as an experiment and mocked it in the groove diamond side down. The hood fits snug.

I would never use the hydro turf brand hood seal. I bought one once for a 550 that thing was a joke.

U can split the watcon all the way around and itll fit lower

Can you reposition the brackets on the hood (maybe lowering them) so they work a little better with the new pole bracket. Then fill the old holes with silicone or something?

these are pretty cheap, easy to install, and thinner than stock. i have one on my blaster and my sj. i've never had any problems.

Its all about the clearance when that lip swings in.
I put the stock seal back in place but rolled it so that it is lower than the rim on the hull. I can swing in the hood in now, but now it gets stuck on and I have to muscle it off.
I think that I am going to split the stock seal (just in front section) and glue the bottom and top halves together to slim it up.

rosesor I have some surf seal like in your link. Its too thick. It hits the hull on the swing in. I even tried cutting off the foam and just leaving the "C" part that grabs the hood on the hood. Not enough clearance. Could not get it on.

A full watcon seal or a split one?

A full one, the first one i put on i split the front section where the hood first goes down, i also use hood straps

years ago my bud put on a new ht seal , next day hoof flew off in gulf ski sank instantly ! he grabbed the hood , another bud grabbed the ski

I've used the Hydroturf hood seal and it's terrible on its own. I've seen it work well when combined with a Surf Seal on the hood.

I've also seen some guys use actual Hydroturf around the hood channel and the hood itself, which seemed to work.

I'll put a strong vote in for the Watcon seal, as it's inexpensive and works like a charm.

What is your advice on adhesive?

So I have rolled the edge of the stock seal so that the hood will swing in (and out) and not get jammed up.
The seal edge lip needed to be lower that the fiberglass rim.
That ATP pole bracket kicks arse. I am very happy with it.
