Surfriding Anyone have a house by the beach on east coast? have any luck surfriding there?

There are all diff state laws up and down the coast, wondering if anyone has or knows anyone that lives on or by the beach and has any success riding off the beach in the slight off season with out any cop drama.
We have had some success using a quiet mini quad to move skis to shore here and riding after Aug.not sure how well this would work out long term with multi riders?

Found a good investment house between the beach and a fresh water unregulated lake to park some cash rather than loose it in tax,Flood insurance and jumbo mortgage is no cake walk, apparently they wont let some areas "transfer the policy" anymore. Mileage distances for "vacation homes" homes are being more strictly enforced for jumbos also.any experience here? there probably was no better location created for a dual purpose freeride/freestyle ski to exist

I live in South Jersey and ride out of Hereford inlet, there is a beach along the inlet that you can beach the skis on in summer, but can't access it from street as a launch point. I just finished up my hitch hauler and will be getting a beach permit for the truck and riding right off the beach in off season till someone tells me I can't, but I have a buddy who is a cop there and says they don't care.

va law changes in mid oct here as legal to launch and land, but the state park just up from this house im looking at,has some people out there that have the grandfather key to drive on beach and launch and land from shore in any kind of vessel they like. Ive got to track down one of these people some how.

fresh water lake behind, ocean in front.hard to beat that. We will never get the op to drive on the public beach, but to the south a bit in the national park with a grandfather key it would be unreal to have this kinda op in va beach living in this spot

Not that I have heard of. There's a couple group threads started and it comes up from time to time with no real answer. Most guys in SC seem to be content to ride the rivers or marshes rather than risk the fines to find out what the law will tolerate. It's also been my experience that the SC coastline really doesn't get that great of surf to warrant the risk.

Sullivan's Island seems to be the most popular spot but requires you to launch at a marina and then ferry all your gear out to the island with a support boat. I hear it can get pretty big surf at times.

We launched and rode off the beach of Hunting Island once late in the season but DNR caught up to us as we were loading up and asked us not to return. It was an above average day for surf according to some surfers that were there but it wasn't great in the grand scheme of things.

The best I found was a spot I scouted a few years back called Breach Inlet. There are 2 possible launches right at the inlet and a very short ride to mild to moderate surf. The inlet is narrow, deep and very fast flowing and locals warn of an extremely dangerous undertow. The beach has a parking lot with perfect access for launching but signage is very clear that even dipping a toe in the water from the beach will net you a $450 fine. The 2nd launch spot is a private ramp that requires a membership. Annual fees are $250 per vessel and they require you to have at least $250,000 liability insurance on each vessel. Some local riders used to launch and ride there years ago but hadn't in quite some time. One of the guys had a key to the ramp.

There are numerous other inlets and breaches along the coastline but the land is all either privately owned or part of large plantations that restrict access to residents only, (all gated communities with security to enforce). I was doing some touring years ago and had my Superjet in the bed of the truck and was turned away at the gate by security. Now, if we knew someone who lived in the subdivision then that could be a game changer!

Check out property on Edisto Island around Outlet point or Frampton Inlet. There's even a private road along Botany Bay Rd that takes you right to the beach. There's absolutely nothing around it but beach and farmland for miles so we wouldn't be bothering anyone. Not much of a break though so surf might be dismal at best.

If you can afford or know someone that has a house on the beach then things might be a bit different. My experience is based on not knowing anyone.

All the local riders I have met launch at the marinas and use support boats to reach the surf. They also have a very different riding style that doesn't really suit me. Most are on SXR's and ride like they are still on a dirt bike or a buoy course.

I am also not aware of anywhere in SC where you are allowed to drive on the beach. Most beaches I have visited have large dunes and wooden walkways with stairs that would be difficult to navigate with a ski. Tons of year round beach goers and surfers that have had it to themselves for so long now that they would definitely raise a stink too.

I launched right off the beach at Folly Beach (Charleston, SC) with a group of locals, but that was in '96, '97. It was right near what they call "the washout". It was also in March when there's not many people around. I was in St. Augustine, FL (without a ski unfortunately) and saw riders driving and launching off the beach.

boyer, good insight bud. There are some secret spots here and there you can drive on and launch, most are private property of some sort. I really wish I could find someone with a grandfather key to drive and launch on the beach in the national park just south of sandbridge. If I could get ahold of one of these keys,Id buy this house in a second. I dont wana be out there this far if I cant get ski access on the beach.they have built up the surrounding area a ton in the last 5 yrs though, every restaurant, home depo, targer, wal mart ect ect 5 min away. Im just spoiled to living central to interstate access. The pros are outweighing the cons quick....
