That's good news! What are you doing to stretch your hip flexors?
I'd like to know as well.

I know this is going to be a vague post withput images, so im sorry in advance and will try my best to be helpful with it.

Previously i was trying to stretch my hip flexors and foam roll my quads. It caused a lot of pinching in my back and worsened my symptoms, so my previous answer to your question would have been.... nothing.

It was not for a lack of effort. I tried the traditional lunge pose. I tried yoga warrior 1 and 2. I also tried lying on a table and letting one leg hang while the other was pulled to my chest. All painful, no improvements.

What i know now, is A) i didnt know my flexors were a problem, so i ended with a loosing game of catchup leading up to my injury and B) is that due to my underlying condition i was unaware of, i have no tolerance for anterior pelvix tilt, take more breaks. I believe, that my hip flexors became extremely tight from riding my stand up, which lead to my injury.

Think of the drag racing pose, with your left leg forward extended at the knee, but also the left hip flexed, right leg back. The pose stretches you left glute, flexes your hip flexors, but even worse the straight knee puts the rectus femoris in a fully shortened position. Repeat this crouched position every time you exit a corner, and you have a recipie for deactivated posterior chain disaster. Lets not forget how much we use our backs, and anterior tilt is almost a guarantee.

The stretch i have beein doing recently he gave me is modified from a lunge. Im sorry it may be tough without a picture...

The goal of this stretch is to combat the tendency to let your pelvis tilt anterior during a hip flexor stretch.

Imagine being in a lunge position with your left knee on the ground. You do the same lunge position but aginst a door frame. Both of your buttock are against the wall, and you left low leg is behind you going into the next room. You start with your knee in the position it needs to be, so for me being so tight its actually slightly infront of directly under me, if youre very limber, it could be behind you. Tighten your left glute and your core very tihtly, reach over your head and grab the door frame. Using your glute and stomach, push your belly button throuh you into the wall behind you. If you are not nearly flat to the wall, or your pelvis is tilting forward, stop, adjust, maybe move your knee forward, and retry. Your glute should be making lota of power, if not, move your knee forward until you progress, your hip flexor is deactivating your glute.

Additionaly , your rectus femoris, a secondary hip flexor, is located in the front of your quad. Easy to hit with a foam roller. Mine was so tight, i could barely bend my knee, i just didnt realize it because i was tilting my pelvis and arching my back to compensate. This muscle straightens your knee and flexs your hip, so if your hip is flexed, you are going to think you can bend your knee, but when standing tall, you dont realize it locks your knee out. What i believe i was doing was... flexing my hip and hyperentending my back, to take enough off the muscle to let my knee flex, putting a huge load on my spine. Thats the kind of stuff you just cant figure out on your own.

Recently they have been getting in there on my psoas, because it just hurts too damn much to do on your own. Now i can get a stretch on it, and roll my quad. I was very bad befoee they started their work.

I learned a few valuable lessons on this topic over the last year.
Take breaks, you cant ride indefinately.
Dont spend too much time on school work and neglect sports, your hipflexors get tight and your core gets weak.
Doctors who tell you that you are the master of your body, while you are dealing with a neurological issue, are lazy and full of crap. Find a new doctor. You can not figure out the your shoulder and hip are causing your leg to hurt. You need a skilled professional to give you good homework.

I forgot!
I have been having pain in my hip and lower right side of my back. I think it's a muscle pulled tight that is causing the arthritis. I also had a root canal 7 years ago that had some decay so last week I had it pulled. Apparently root canals are the cause of many problems in the body. I hoping that this will cure my body aches. Did you know that almost everyone with terminal cancer has had root canals. I ripped that sucker out asap

So I've been dealing with lower back pain for about 10 years, but mine as ive learned recently is all due to lack of flexability in muscles, mostly mu upper legs which pull on the lower back.

Strecthing daily is the only way to make it manageable. and it sucks but it helps. The only way to fix the problem at least for me any way is to go to the gym and strengthen my core and back muscles. Back when I was riding motocross and working out regularly it was immensely helpful.

But I never have time for the gym and its boring As hell. Ive found playing ice hockey(2-3 nights a week) helps a lot as the constant upper body rotation when shooting helps stretch everything, and the Hockey stance helps my legs out( slightly squatting). between it and hockey I can make it through most days.

But as long as there is no injury stretching and strengthening is really the only way to improve your way of life IMO.

My back and hip are almost 100% again. I did some physio therapy which was mostly stretches to work the muscle that was pinching the nerve. Stretching is good and I never do enough. Trying to change that.

Thanks Vumad, I read some of the posts. Im still really struggling with my neck and back problems, nothing I have tried so far has helped, I going to ride the Brawler a few times this spring but Im pretty sure I will be sellling it, my neck and back just cant handle riding hard anymore.

Have you gone to a good chiro. I found one that works great.
I have been going to her for over a year now. I now go every 2 weeks to maintain. I still workout for 30 min every other day with lots of stretching.
My back is sore every week but only from being on my hands and knees for hours at a time.

I went to a chiro a few times and it only made it worse, the chiro actually told me to stop going because there was nothing else he could do
You may need to try several to find the right one for you. I just got lucky.
The physiotherapist made mine worse. I went to him a couple of visits and said F this. I went to the chiro and she took xrays before even touching me. She was honest, caring and very knowledgeable.

I have had 2 episodes with my back. The first was bad, hurt for weeks in my L4/5. She made it better by far.I couldnt lay flat, sleep, sit you name it. It was horrible.
I remember when she got my right hip free.I was like,I just felt my leg extend! That side was locked up BAD.
I continued to work which was not wise and a little less than 6 months BAM, I hit the ground like I was shot. Wasnt doing any more than moving something with wheels over so I could get something in the trailer.
I had to go to the ready clinic that next day,I was begging my wife to take me to the ER that night which is an hour away. It was the most pain I ever had.Crying pain. Couldnt walk more than 10 steps with out both legs feeling like they were broken. I had my pants down before the nurse could get "going to give you a couple of shots".
Xrays and then a MRI . Found out that I had a sequestered disc. Which is the most painful of all.
Steroids and tramodol helped a lot. Couldnt do anything for a few months. Sharp pain when getting up from the bed or chair. Didnt work for months.
She didnt want to touch me for about a month after due to not knowing where the 4mm piece of disc fragment was.
I thought I was going to have to make a career, life change. Now I just watch how I pick up things, and carry them. Slight bends are the worst for you as well as twisting.

Hopefully I can do this for this year and find something a bit easier on the body.Like a cigar lounge!

@INDebtSJ I have the same thing going on with my back L4-L5 and L5-S1 sequester. I tried chiro, physical therapy and have been scraping by for the last 18 months on tramadol, steroids, and Valium for my muscle spasms. My legs are now so weak, they've lost all their muscle tone and I barely have feeling in my toes. I'm going in for a consultation about minimally invasive soon... Oh I also haven't done anything about my broken c2 yet, it's calcified back on but not quite in place. When it broke it barely missed my medulla oblongata.

Dude!
I never had any real symptom with mine. No leg pain at all until the bad stuff happened.
Hopefully you can have the surgery that is minimally invasive.
I forget what it's called. I went to the neuro surgery for the consult and asked if I was in pain and a candidate could I have the good surgery. He said no, fusion is what you need. I think that it's the easiest and cheapest.
I warched a video of this guy, he flew out of the state's to have surgery cause it was the least invasive kind. They pulled out a HUGE sequester fragment! It was double digit mm in size.
If you are paying , might as well be the best!

I have great insurance and I'm double covered I can do anything I want to price wise. I talked on the phone with the Doctor, he said I'll have 4 15mm incisions and will walk out of the hospital in a total of 4 hours. I'll be going to UCSF spine center. They're ranked top 10 in the country for spine. I feel like I'm in good hands and they've been super helpful and answered all questions I've had and more.

For those of you with upper spine issues you should look into this new product before you jump into fusion. Im not sure exactly what cases this could be a replacement for but A coworker of mine's wife got it as an alternative to fusion and she is feeling great. Being in the spine business I get to hear about all of the coolest new technology. I'm not a medical professional so don't ask me any questions though lol.

i had an mri done of my low back last week and nothing major really showed up. one disk had a larger space than the rest of them and some "dehydration" of a couple of the lowest disks but nothing really unusual for a 50 year old. i happen to mention to my chiropractor that i am currently taking a methyl prednisone pack for a allergy flareup and how anytime i am on one of the those i feel like a new man while i'm taking them. 95% of any and all aches and pains i happen to have at the time go away. range of motion in my neck and low back is like it used to be when i was in my 20's. she found that very interesting and said many people dont experience that and asked if anyone has ever talked to me about auto immune disorders like fibro myalgia or lupus. i did have one doc mention fibromyalgia once but i thought he was nuts.

anyone have experience or knowledge with those conditions?

she also said she was suspicious of delayed food allergies which i have also gone down that road aways but really had trouble removing some the the items completely; and in some cases even knowing what foods had them. benzoic acid??? what the hell has that in it

anyways, feeling like a 20 year old today!!!
