How do you establish what replacement cost will be in the event of a claim? Is it based on year/make/model or do you tell them what it's worth? ie) provide them with receipts.

no kidding???? damn, that's worth it!!!

I'm gonna check USAA. That's who covers my vehicles and they are the best insurance company I have dealt w/.
Yea, figure I got so much invested in the boat, if I loose it going to Cali or it gets stolen its worth it. Not to mention the liability if something ever did go wrong......

That's awesome. I just built up my 07 and I would love to get it insured. Just didn't think it was feasable.

Is that combined with your house/vehicle insurance or a stand alone policy?

Seperate policy, but I have about 8 cars with them and the home as well. Interesting thing, if you had a boat in your shop that is insured, the boat must be insured seperatly for it to be covered in the event of a fire.

ya, i was told by someone that anything that is registrable on its own has to be on separate policies in order to be covered...

for example you ski catches on fire in your garage/driveway, you can't make a claim on your homeowners policy.

Also, tools that you make a living off of must be covered seperately as well. Personal tools are covered but anything tied to a business or other income must be insured seperately as well.

Thanks Crab, I'm going to call my agent tonight and get at least a few of my skis insured. Now to decide which ones to get insurance on...

In Alberta Canada, if you had modified anything on the ski then it was not eligible for insurance, period! An aftermarket impellor was considered a modification. Stock ski cost $350/yr for coverage.

In British Columbia, Canada, mods were allowed but theft would only be covered if they were stolen from inside a locked building and they were locked again somehow. Locked and Locked as they worded it. Coverage for a stock ski was $350-$650/yr

I will likely only do the two biggest built skis.
