anyone know a way to get a "legal" surf area in cocoa beach, FL?

I think I am liking the surf, and cocoa beach is a few min away from me, but there is no place to legally beach launch, or ride without having to stay 200 feet off the beach. Other then cocoa, it 40 miles to the north or south to do it. I already tried emailing the mayor, but no response. Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I know if they had a open area in cocoa, it would be crazy.

PS- anyone else notice in from of Ron Johns surf shop, there is some on on a stand up in a big statue in front of it.

It will never happen. You used to be able to launch at coconuts. But Brevard County gov is all about keeping the beaches mellow. No pets, no driving, no beaching skis. I wish!

They are starting to ease up. They have a dog park on the beach now. I think the big thing would be away from people and major condos. Maybe a large flash mob on the beach with the skis.

there isnt much here as far as dealers, just the house of power in cocoa, and thats it. But I see skis all the time, and when I am out on the river, people stop and say they either have them, or know someone that does. So I know if I can just get in touch with the right people to see what can be done, something "might" happen

If you can pull that one off then you're the new mayor! We're then going to pay your way out here to Cali so you can do it again!

Sweet! I have always wanted to be the mayor. I can see it now. I know we helped with the dog park bs and it took two years of petitioning and work. But they needed stuff built and money. All that would be needed would a area and a ramp for carts. I will see tonight if I can dig for phone numbers and email to spam tomorrow. Anyone want to help?

I have been digging around, and I can not find the code, or law that states that PWC have to stay 200-300 feet from shore, but I am thinking of writing a nice letter and sending to everyone on the councel, and if I get nothing, I can fill out a fourm to have it put on the adgenda for a meeting. I think if I throw in the possible amount of money they could make if it is done like daytona, it might sweeten the deal. Anyone in?

you would need a PWC zone like Daytona. They were smart and that it moves almost every month, so hotel owners can't bitch. If you have one spot in mind, it should be away from the most crowded area of the beach. Your best bet is to show them HOW it will bring $$$ into the economy and not cost the city anything.

I am pretty sure it is state law that prevents you riding near swimming areas, usually it is local ordinance that prevents you from launching motorized craft from a certain area (public beaches). Good luck.

Well I just got this little gem from the mayor.....

TJ,
I am sorry, but not only don’t the residents want vehicles on the beach the state also prohibits them on the beach because of turtle nesting.

Best regards,

Charles Billias

Kinda a half ass if you ask me. But people don't want surfers, fisherman, animals, drinks, or anything on the beach.
