Go right ahead I guess, but for the cost of footholds, you're better off buying them from a company that builds them in most instances.

I kinda made my own. A buddy got some WDK rev"s, I made a fiber glass mold of them, and then modified them to my my liking. I wanted them larger with a bigger ankle bump. But you really can buy them as cheap as you can make them unless you want something specific like me.

I've made two types. One set was from a set of molds that i have and the other set were totally custom. I got foam and shaped it, then glassed over it, Once you have a set, you can get mold release and spread it on the foot hold so that when you glass over that, it will not stick.

I'd say try to carve your own out of foam, bondo over it to smooth it out, then use mold release when you final glass and pop your own!

i have built my own foot holds and it definitly took a :):):):) load of time, its way cheaper and less timly just to by a set, unless you want something totaly different from everything as i did, but it realy does take along time to make a set

thats pretty much what i did. had the materials already (epoxy resin/glass/mold release) not hard at all till you start to mod them to make your own. just takes a little time but worth it to me to have them the way i like. but i will say it is much easier if you can a set out there that you like.

My home away from home.
I modded the ones that were in my ski last winter and they were great IF I was taller. They are getting redone this winter (again) for sure, because the previous owner was 6'2 ish and I'm maybe 5'9" with a muscle spasm. So I am moving them forward a bit. I like to widen the area where your heels set, so you have to do some more cutting on the hull, but to me it feels a lot better having a (true) wider stance. Some footwells allow you to stand duckfooted (which is still way better than stock) but your heels are still close to the actual stock tray width. I cut away at the top of the gunwales a bit for your leg to have room to move so you don't break it, or rub it raw. I'm sure others have done a better job , but this is how I did mine. It will improve this winter lol!

I wanted something different with my holds so I just carved them out of the foam in the gunwhales and glassed them in the ski. Didnt cost much just glass and resin and I have custom holds now. I had to use thin glass but many layers in the curves of the holds. Worst thing is I got kinda crazy with the underpadding in my holds and my feet fit super tight.

Those are both sick, i just ordered a pancake pete, and am creating a bit more of a lip in the ankle bump of my diggers.

Make sure to provide support for the tray with full length slots. I make an angle at the edge of the tray tied in at front/back.

Why make a mold unless you are mass producing them?
Just cut and shape your own from foam and glass over them.

Did that on my first ski and didn't like it. Not as clean as actually making a mold. I guess I'm just anal when it comes to my ski, plus I like working in the garage and trying new things so the mold process was a learning process.

And i DO plan on mass producing the other foot holds not long from now ;)
