If you're using the timing curve selector switch make sure it's open. If you're using the 3 position switch set it in the middle. The edit cable uses the same two wires that the switch uses.

Unplug all the USB devices you can.

If that does not work, check if the driver where installed.

Press Start->Setting->Control Pannel->System->Device Manager
Go to "Ports", expand it and note how many devices. Plug in the cable and then look and see if a device was added. If a device was added and has a yellow question mark '?" you need to install the driver. If the device is called USB Serial Port with out a question mark you should be ok.

I could try to explain install driver however see if any of this help.

I got my epic working. I have a question I was hoping someone could answer? I have 2 timing curves to put into the cdi saved to to different file names. Well it seems like it will only let me save 1 curve. If I want the other curve then that shows as the only curve.

Are you thinking that you can load 2 curves into the epic or 2 files? It will only hold 1 file at a time but there are 2 curves for each file. Curve A and curve B. The epic will run curve A unless you connect the pink wire to ground directly or with a switch of some sort.

Interesting thread!, I was able to connect the epic using my office computer but when I switched to the lap top, I could not get a connection either.this is great info here for sure ! I though my lap top was just a POS!

I grabbed the programming cable from my buddy and will be flashing my epic to the latest firmware soon so I will try and run thru some of the configuration steps to see where you guys may be having issues. So far I have used my work laptop with xp pro and my personal laptop with vista and both connected immediately so I'm at a loss at this point.

The main thing to verify is that the drivers are installed correctly for the usb communication cable. The port should be self resolving.

Steve, make sure your lanyard is plugged in, 'cause if the white wire is grounded you cannot get a connection! When testing the epic using your office computer you probably are powering the unit with a battery and nothing is hooked up to your white wire.

This is all good stuff and just what we need, thanks to those of you that are computer techies and have EPICS its nice to have the input. From my own experience I have tried probably 10 different computers and only had one problem with the software, that was on a laptop with bluetooth and we have one other person had the same problem with a bluetooth computer. With the latest software we have tried to address this problem, rather than go straight into auto search you have the option of either auto search or selecting the com port the serial adaptor is asigned to. The other thing worth doing is downloading a free copy of Ccleaner or similar, its surprising how 100Mb of rubbish effects your computer.

Press print screen, upload it into photoshop or similar then re-size it and upload it to the forum. Probably a better way but thats how I did it.

No I just want to print it earlier to program a second curve to copy off of and if I right clicked on the screen it would not let me print it.
