I friggin hate this crap...

There is alot of rant and raving online about how great this spray paint is. On this website and others, they say it leaves a super hard super glossy finish. Looks just like OEM white paint.

Well I am here to post my review. While the color does match pretty well it does not spray very easy at all. About a week ago I sanded down and tried to paint my OEM hood. The can says re coat within 10 minutes or after a week. I thought that was funny so I sprayed, waited 10 minutes and put another coat on. First two coats went well. Sprayed fine, after the coat I turned the can upside down and cleaned the nozzle. I decided to add a third coat to get a nice consistent glossy finish. I started spraying and the can started to run low, and started to spray big drops of paint. I thought because the can was low it wasent spraying well. I then took another can shook really well and started spraying It was going well until this can got about 4/6 full and started splattering too! I thought I might of not shook it enough. So I shook it more and cleaned the nozzle. By now my hood is looking a litle crappy. I tried to finish it off but the can was really bad it was just throwing big globs of paint. I decided I lost and waited a week and a half for it to dry.

The paint felt super soft up until about day 7-8 of drying. I could easily scrap the paint off my hood. Around day 10 it felt dry (enough) I decided to sand down old paint and splatter spots. I washed the hood and let it dry over night.

Today I went to Walmart and another fresh can of paint. I shook the can all the way home from Wal-mart and then some. It is exactly 70 degrees outside, no humidity, and absolutely no wind. I thought it was perfect painting condition. I started spraying very slowly, holding the can vertical, and with even coats the hood. It was going great, after finishing one side I shook for bout 5 minutes and tried the other. About 80% of the way through the can i started to spatter again!

WTF, I though the can might be getting too cold from spraying so much at once. So I ran it under warm water, shook, and started again. It was spraying good for about 40 seconds then splattered again.

I just gave up, whats up with this stuff? It wont dry (thought it was because I waited to long between coats) and it wont spray (just "spits"). Maybe I am spraying too much at once? I feel like I have had much better experience with normal Krylon stuff.

F- dont use.

sounds like your running low on propellant, since you didnt mention a brand name just walmart, id assume its the cheap stuff.
go to a paint shop and buy paint there, they have the good stuff.

Sounds frustrating to say the least. Epoxy usually doesn't have as hard as a finish as an acrylic but has better adhesion capabilities. Paint stores do have better stuff that tends to have better quality control. Really durable epoxy paint in a white will be the same stuff they use to refinish bath tubs. Wait for it to cure, wet-sand with 1500 grit and give it a light buff and call it done.

I have had that happen to me with engine enamel...seems to be the nozzle that causes this..if you want a nice spray paint go to napa and grab duplicolor with the fan type (blue tip) nozzle, the bottom of my 750 is done with this stuff and it sprays on very nice and the finish is actually really good and glossy..

Good idea... I have some Krylon with that... sprays such a nice perfect fan....

I was using this stuff because it has an OEM type finish.... but doesnt work for me...

Yep notice a pattern after 20-30 minutes a couple of coats and paint gets dried up in the tip.

When painting I always like to have a rag with acetone or thinner handy for cleaning the tip of a can or my spray gun, and always have a chunk of wood or cardboard for test spray or tip adjustment.

I had great luck with the black it got hard and stuff. The stupid white splatters and stayed soft for 2 weeks its still soft after 5 weeks but i dont care i went riding a few times and its staying on.

I was under the impression that most people who used the appliance enamel were spraying them through guns, thats what i did and it worked well. I've never had any luck with anything that comes out of a rattle can.

Well geese, I thought people only used the can.

I did'nt even know there was a gallon. Do you guys spray with a spray gun? Brush?

The hood is drying now. It doesn't look too bad, especially in the sun. There is a few spots I would like to touch up, but overall its "ok". I guess I am just a perfectionist

Sounds like you were coating WAY too thick. I remember when I used it, the stuff felt like a rock after a day or two (spraying in the winter). I used it on the bottom side of my old 750sx. I thought it was great stuff but it's messy because it's throws a huge cloud of paint that just lingers and never really falls.

Ya the stuff causes a mess. My arms were covered.

I dont think I was too thick, I think waiting between coats is a bad idea....

Definitely have to wear sleeves. My arm hair was a sticky mess the first time I used it. I sprayed the inside of a few hulls with the cans. I will only do black in the future because the white will look like crap after a season from grease and oil.

I used the rattle can Appliance Epoxy and had no such problems with either the white or black. But I did use one of those gun attachments for the can as you'll wear your finger raw using just the regular can tip.

User error maybe?
