So I've been on my ski for two summers now. Love it, sold the dirt bike to help cover some costs.

Anyways, long story short, why is that anytime I see anyone on a standup, I try and talk to them, I just get shut down. I mean, maybe it's the X2, but after we get out on the water, away from the launch and we can see each other riding and I'm killing it, at least riding a little better than they are usually, they still aren't into talking, so I know it's not because of the X2.

Just bums me out, rarely see superjets and kawis out in "the wild" and when I do, no one ever wants to talk, make friends, plan to meet up and ride. It's usually a hey and they just walk off. This happen where you live? I'm up in washington and I only see standups once for every three or four times I'm out and I've met no one new to ride with and I've probably been out 20 times this year already. What a joke...

Weird, i always try to make friends when I see someone on a standup or if they are riding something different or old school. Most of us appreciate the old school stuff and probably know what an x2 is if they ride a stand up. Must just be your area

most of they riders that I know are very social, have you ever run into these guys at the ramp/dock?

On a side note there are quite a few guys that ride in the tacoma area that post both here and pwctoday. I think that Evan rides in that area.

LOL, just kidding bro, must be your area...

Last time I was in Tacoma 5ppl got stabbed and the cops shut the club I was at down and called in reinforcement from neighboring towns so Im geussing it has nothing to do with the skis. I always go up to anyone I see on a standup and at least say hi and try to chat a little met quite a few cool ppl that way and blessed several with an opportunity to ride an FX1 LOL

Curiously, it's actually hard to break the surface at rides too because even though you know who everyone is . . . really, you don't know who anyone is.

Don't listen to that guy ^^ no one would talk to a guy who looks like that avatar anyhow..... Wait that might be your problem. Do you look like the elephant man???

No really it must be in your area. People around here will go out of their way to talk to another ski rider. Heck the few that ride skis are friends from meeting up at the lake a few times. Move to Southern IL. I would like to have some one to ride with a few times a week.

And I agree with you Shonuff it is weird. The ones I talked to the most at the rides are the ones that don't post a lot on the boards.. Maybe that is because they don't know me.... Hummm

There are very few standup riders in my area. But in the cases where there are a couple, we all gravitate towards each other. It's almost like "Hey, I'm not the last person on the planet".

I think standups would be more condusive to meeting up and shooting the breeze with people than couches are. You inevitably need to take breaks from riding, which gives folks time to just hang out together. Where on couches, you put in at the ramp, buzz around for 4 hours, and drive it back onto the trailer.

It's not like that here. Anyone even remotely close to riding sport, standup skis or putting in at a ramp that leads to the ocean is welcomed warmly and introduced to our website.

Collectively, we believe there is power in numbers and the more people we have riding with our group, the better chance of getting a dedicated ride area. One never knows who that new guy is at the ramp, he just may be a City Council member or a friend of one.

It must be your area. Im in New Orleans and last year at this time I was the only one on a standup. Now theres at least 7 of us that ride every weekend. We are the only ones that are social in our area.

I should clarify: once you introduce yourself, everyone is extremely jovial and cordial at rides.

Bingo! I don't really see why it's so hard to break the ice at rides. Just walk up to anyone you don't know, hold out your hand and say "hi, I'm <insert name>, I post as <insert screen name> on the boards." The whole point of the rides is to meet other people so it's a little silly NOT to introduce yourself.

I walked past Katie and Mark44 about twenty times saying hello before finally introducing myself and found out who they were.

break the ice, ok!?

I can say I have seen some of the anti-social behavior even at the freeride events. As with any gathering, there will always be the small groups that hang together and don't socialise with others. I'm not complaining. It's just human behavior. Sometimes you can run into the nicest people and have a great time. Sometimes you meet a complete tool, and don't want to talk. You're darned if you do, you're darned if you don't.
