Are the GP 760 and 800 mounts a direct bolt in? Or do they have to be modded to fit?
The couch(GP style) mounts have a larger diameter rubber section and larger metal top plate. This means a larger surface area for the vulcanizing of the rubber to both the base and top plates. Therefore, mount should be stronger because of both the larger rubber section strength and larger surface areas to bond.
We have been using these mounts used from couchs in both our flat and surf skis without many/any problems. I surf flopped so hard i though i might have a concussion and mounts were fine.
Couch mounts have the small angle and the same mounting hole pattern, but they are a little taller. Correct fitment will depend on your ski and how much shimming was necessary with stock sj mounts.
If they are too tall for correct alignment in your ski, simply shift mount toward the outside of the ski and this will lower their effective height. Sometimes you will need to enlarge the holes on the mount base to allow more movement. Round file or dremel makes quick work in the soft aluminum, and you dont need to move them far.
I like to install mounts shifted outward with bolts just barely tight, install motor and then check alignment. I will carefully loosen and slide mounts in to raise motor close to final alignement. Then i tighten the mounts and only use a few thin shims for final alignment. You can also align motor in this way with no shims but it takes a little longer.
