Are Solas mag pumps still eating bearings?

I did the freeze heat method and worked perfect, been riding the pump every weekend for over a year and no issues. It was a pump bought new 5-6 years ago. Its all about the install for longevity.

The install is important but so is the fit. If the bearings require excessive force to install then do some measuring and see what is out of spec. I used C3 fit bearings on my first one, they went in tighter than I like but it runs fine. I cut my second pump.

@john zigler how much are your spacers? How many should I order? Thanks

Do you have the stock SJ type spacer in there (with the rubber outer seal)?

If not, you may want to put that back in, and check clearance.

I am not sure how many spacers you would need Usually one or two does it. You want your impeller as close as you can, without hitting. Sorry, I cannot remember a price, I would need to look them up. I think they are 10.00 ea.

Jetmaniac sells a kit with a couple different spacers. It is nice to have options. The spool up of the pump can be tuned by moving the prop closer or farther from the stator vanes.

You can compensate for a smaller motor on a steeper prop with a larger gap.

OK, got my spacer kit, I installed the 2mm one with the fat rubber ring on it, that leaves a .019 thousands gap between the hub and impeller, that sound right? Thanks

Put it in your ski and see....

Like stated above ( i think it was this thread?):

Tighter to the pump will hook, and load harder, spaced away will let it spool up a little if needed. Depends on your build.

So the pumps eating bearings isn't a problem anymore? I rebuilt my stock pump using the hot cold method and it worked like a champ. But the solas destruction threads have me worried.

I am still turning EVERY pump we sell on the lathe, just to be sure. We actually open them up, to reduce press.

I will be doing the same when the 148mm pumps arrive.

If you purchased a pump from me, you are good to go. I do not charge extra for this. If you purchased elsewhere it "may" be OK, but it is hard to say without measuring. I still am seeing some that are out of spec.
