There are a few reasons... One is to shorten the pole and lower the the pole bracket which go together in a way. The other isn't really moving the bracket forward but chopping the nose closer to the bracket. Think of someone that almost completed a backflip but nosed in and fell on their face... if the nose was 6"-12" shorter, that guy would've successfully pulled off that same backflip.
The second seems more like what Lenzi and Highroller are doing.
