Well Im looking for a new ski and i'll proably get an 04 or 05 ski. This is for you guys who have sxr and do flatwater freestyle. Is it really that much harder to do flatwater tricks on a sxr compared to an sj. IT just seems like it takes a little more work. Now i no i should get an sj but i like the sxr more and you dont see as many. So sxr riders opinions would be greatly appreciated and so would people with both an sj and sxr.

So come on Sxr guys, IS it really that much harder and is it worth it to get the sxr?

I have both and you can do some things with the sxr, but the weight limits you, imo the sj is better suited for freestyle/freeride.

I rode an SXR this weekend, and couldnt barely get the thing out of the water with footholds. It is a race boat, an SJ will never handle like one, and the only way to realy lighten a SXR for freestyle is a 8000+ hull.

They handle like a dream, but if you want to just play, and do freestyle get an SJ, there is no comparison.

AN Sxr would probably still be a blast in the surf, but your talking waves then, not flatwater.

its really not easy to do flat water tricks on an sxr i dont know about the sj, but we have an sxr and sxi, the sxr hull is a lot heavier, i ride a 750 sxi and i got on the sxr and couldnt do n e thing on flat water except ride barley, plus tha sxi hull is lighter, but its gonna b hard to pull em flat water tricks off

It is almost impossible to do flatwater rolls or backflips on a SXR. Thats about it.

I will take you up on that challenge..... :cool2:

I have barreled an sxr off about 1' high surf. probly about the same as a setup wake.

You bring the boat...

I have both, but don't ride flatwater. Even though you can practically do everthing on an SXR in the surf that you could do on an SJ I still prefer the SJ. Takes less effort and seems like I am more fearless on the SJ (I think it is the weight differenece)

Pete,
I will make it to Jersey this year for some hardcore Pancake training! I would love to roll this sucker in the flats!!! I am chopping a rideplate off as I am rebuilding. Maybe it will help lighten the nose.... or maybe I need to take off my pink panties and just do it:banghead:
Rip it.

Ahem... Ive ridden many different sxrs and many different SJs... my opinion, if you want to do freestyle get a SJ, if you want to race get an SXR... is there an echo in here? However, if properly set up for racing, a SJ can be rolled and raced competitively... SXRs are just way more fun to race, you can lean into them real hard and you dont have to worry about high siding... /w the proper mods you can keep that pump hooked up in sideways hairpin turns and that can be just as fun as some freestyle... :tomato:
