I was talking to Dan Hansen last night, and we talked a little about the fact he has been sucessfully running av gas and very high compression with no problems and virtually no wear on his 800 stroker motors. It was my understanding that there were problems with the solvents in the fuel, but he has had none. Anyone who has seen his 60+ mph X2 must admitt that he knows how to make them fly, region 3 sport class champ for '06.

I think the difrence in AV gas and VP is the oxygen in the fuel. There is not enough of it in AV gas or something like that. I've ran AV gas against VP in my dirtbikes. VP runs cleaner with more power compared to AV gas. in my own opinion.

This is what I found online

Av Gas has a lower specific gravity than most racing gasolines. This means that if a racer tries Av Gas and has not re-jetted, he can burn a piston because the air-fuel ratio is too lean and/or the engine detonated. To make a good comparison between two gasolines, the air-fuel mixtures must be the same. Even after re-jetting, the racer can experience burned pistons with Av Gas if the Motor Octane Number (MON) is lower than what his/her engine needs.

Another potential problem with Av Gas is that there are several different octane grades. The 80/87 grade is red in color and can get you in lots of trouble because of its very low octane number. The 100LL is blue and the 100/130 grade is green. Both of these have much lower Motor Octane Numbers than most racing gasolines and will detonate when the engine octane demand is greater than the octane number of the gasoline.

100 LL Av gas will work fine in most freestyle engine set-ups with high compression motors. And yes there is a little more ponies you can get with a pure racing gas, but not worth the extra $$ for it unless your racing. I run most of my motors on Av 100 at 220 lbs + and up with a real ignitions (Advents, Vilders, Wax digital and MSD -TL) and make lots of power and have no piston problems of anykind!

good to hear supertune. I stopped using it years ago after burning a couple pistons in my dirtbikes. I just thought av gas was very inconsistant. I found myself always trying to chase jetting issues with it.

Now I just use sonoco and get it by the 55 gallon drum.

Definitely more power to be made w/the right race gas for your application. All depends on how much power you want to make.

I also run White Trash Race Gas (AV100LL) in my ski, never with any issues. I've been doing lots of homework on this issue lately, and I will be switching to VP MS109 for next year. That, hands down, is the best fuel.

vp smells the best.

the worst smelling gas has to be team kawasaki's old 2 stroke fuel. That stuff used to smell lke shiat.
