B-1 Dropdeck Project

Im in the ? mode For what exactly ( carbon /kevlar, and how many layers ) to use / Im thinking of laying my own topdeck rather than piecing in the HEAVY glass piece thats there at the moment / also Im presently building a new ''hybred'' beach dolly '' B-1's only'' again this year for Daytona , so that has consumed some build time . I like building stuff.......LOL

its a pain in the ass to do it this way but you could mock it all up with foam and then cover it in bondo, primer, sand smooth and wax and pva that then pull a mold off of your "new" hull and then lay up a perfect part to glass in.

the harder way is of course to try and lay up and shape the glass. probably be heavier too.

the benefit of the foam is you can shape it easily and refoam and reshape if you change your mind. my first project we used modeling clay on til we knew it was the shape we liked best.

cool project- glad you cut more off the around the back of the hood I was worried it would end up being a sharp step and those corners looked nasty. lines look they are gonna flow now. keep going. helps to have friends to come over and nag you to keep working on it. least it does for me. I procrastinate sometimes.

Awesome, this has been on my todo list for awhile now but a little bit different. What are you going to do with your ebox and what's the plan for sealing up around the firewall?

Junky : the box will go up front ''somewhere on the side i think '' and firewall will be moulded to the floor in one piece as far as i can presently see anyways . and Tom :Thanks for the Ideas I sure I will use some of what you provided / Im presently working on my new dolly STILL ! should be soon on the dolly .

the blue insulation foam is glass based and can be applied in layers then sanded to shape then glass over.

if that is the same as what i got , it melted when i put poly on it. big 4 x 8 sheet bout 1 inch thick"

finish that freakin dolly and get to work slacker!!!!!!!!

it didn't melt when i glued it down to the hull w/ epoxy?

poly may just get to hot.
When I did my foam, the epoxy resin was fine to lay directly on it, but the poly almost melted a sheet. Don't know if it was heat, or if it was just dissolved, but it didn't take long.

not yet , workin on the dolly daily I just stopped due to not having the exact tap ,bit ,and screws , mostly I had to get my gear ratio and pivot measurements correct ,I dont want it to do a sprint on the beach but its commin along just fine .... If it works as planned it will be perfect where we ride at Sterling State Park Mi ''rough ground with a steep grade at the beach '' . pics when i get past my fitment stage

So you were talking about laying your own deck. Does anyone know some good resources for DIY carbon? I have some ideas for a new seat.

Can't wait to see what you come up with on that deck.

I have been working on this powered tote dolly untill 7;00 PM pm yesterday , Its not gonna make daytona because were leaving tonight , Im disapointed thats its only its 90 % done , I need a different gear ratio for a little more power, when I get back from daytona Ill post pics and progress ,Its been fun , Ill have it done and working for spring ! just an update for the bump , the dolly is alive ! Leaving for Daytona in 6 hours !

I started a project very similar to this about a year and a half ago.
Everybody was enthused when I started, then nobody would help.
So, after about 6 months of constantly tripping over it at my shop, I sold it to a guy in
Key West.
Haven't heard a thing since.

It's sooo friggin' difficult once you get into it. I KNOW in my head what it needs to be and what it should look like, but getting that info from the abstract into the concrete is a whole different story.
