B.o.b or eme q8

I've just built a Q8 with a Yam engine so yes it will work. Hard work though we had to use a small tank, no waterbox a special battery and make a set of engine bed plates. The end result will definately flat water flip though.

I see you liked my color scheme :bigok:

Btw.....I have a polaris motor (much larger than yam or kawi) and I am able to run a XMetal waterbox and a larger kart tank with no problem.

What about product development and tooling? What do you think that cost would be?

When you shop for pistons, would you rationalize that they are too expensive? After all, there's only about $1 worth of aluminum in them.

Im just wondering where the cost is. Small boats are not that difficult to build.

Why should COST be the only factor in price?
No offense, but that's rather naive - to put it mildly.

well if its only a $1000 difference then id go with a q8. atleast its a 7k hull and not $3500 plus duties and what not. Not that the quality is any less ( I dont really know). It just seems that the eme q8 is a higher end hull

Why are these hulls so expensive? I can only find about $500 and two days labor in a gell coat BOB. A 100% carbon hull being around $2500 with gell coat finish.

Any decent shop (car, boat, custom etc) is going to charge you a labor rate anywhere from $75-100/hour. Two days (assuming 8 hour days) labor right there is anywhere from 1200-1600 dollars, add to that misc shop parts, making some return on the initial investment of the tooling and R&D to come to a final hull design and the price is pretty spot on for what goes into the hull.

If you think that is outrageous, slap a hull together and see how far you make it and how broke you get before you give up.

Not yelling at you just saying, the aftermarket hull companies aren't exactly killing it on ROI.

chris how much work has that motor got and what do you mean about making a bed plate i thought if you ordered the yamaha model it would just bolt right up ?

skunk you know i like being different thats why i got the fixed steer sj

The engine is bored to 760, ported with a B Pipe, 48mm carbs VF3 reeds and a Flame ignition with a 142mm Kwak magnum. The engine did not line up with the hardware I had supplied so I made some bed plates.

Cost aside, which is the more superior hull? This should be answered by someone who has ridden both hulls. I personally have been on a q8 a couple of times, but never on a BOB.

I think that's a personal preferance. Diff skis for diff rideing styles.
bob is still brand new. No one really knows much about it or it's longevity yet. I need to take a drive down there and demo the bob.

I've ridden both a Q8 and a BOB. Just by chance, both ski's had 701cc set ups. The BOB does what it's built to do, and easily flip. That doesn't mean the Q8 can't, but when I rode the Q8, it felt like I had to try harder to get around on a roll, but the Q8 turns sharp, I had a hard time making it slide. The BOB is a bit in the middle. It carves, but also slides when you want it to. Definitely personal preference. I like the BOB more (not because we build it) but because it was easier for me to get it up and out of the water, as compared to the Q8. Not talking flips, just hopping it and jumping wakes, the BOB wants to get out of the water more than the Q8.

I honestly believe that you need to ride both hulls to decide which you like more. They're both freestyle hulls that were built by pro free stylist with different riding styles.

Come on down, just give us a call and we'll arrange something. We just fixed some electrical issues, so Demo's ready to be ridden.

my bad for some reason though it was a 701...

even so i dont think anyone will throw a stock exhaust into either of these hulls so a b-pipe is a given

Sorry wasn't trying to attack you....You are right on the B-pipe, but If someone claims stock it better be stock. B-Pipe roughly $700+ new and Mag pump $1000+ new. That's a lot of extra money to throw at a ski that is supposed to flip with a stock motor. Although most people buying these hulls will have a limited or bigger motor to start.

You mean the video with the SXR 800 in it with a B-pipe and MAG pump, not to mention a pro rider on the ski? Not so stock to me....

The wet pipe I'm cool with. A high compression head and an MSD enhancer I'd be cool with if he were to run those too since all three of those are considered fairly normal mods. The 142 MAG pump is WAY out there! Awesome looking hull and I love the concept but you can't seriously expect someone who buys a $7k hull, a $2k+ pump/prop, $800 trim, and an $800 pipe to run stock everything else. At well over $10k, you can easily buy a stock RN hull, a mag pump, and a beastly engine and accomplish all the big boy tricks with some practice. Just saying... Cool video, cool hull, but completely unrealistic.

I have not seen a BOB flip with a stock yam setup. The so called stock flip on the BOB wasnt even ridden out of from what I have seen and that ski had at least a pipe and head on it. An 800 sxr on a bpipe still has less hit off the bottom than a bone stock 62t with stock pipe i dont caere what anyone tells you. Its apples to to apples as far as I am concerned.

I have a lot of respect for both builders and would like to try a BOB sometime.
