B-Pipe or ProTec

B-Pipe or ProTec which is better for freestyle? Want low end punch, don't care about top. I read enough posts to know most are probably going to recommend the B-Pipe but is it really $300 better. Same for the ADA girdled head versus a straight ProTec head. I would like to be able to run pump gas.
thanks

I would definitely say the bpipe hands down, but as far as the head goes in my opinion compression is compression.

I would think 185lbs on an ADA Head is the same as 185lbs on a Protec Head.

well if you get the b pipe i would get any head. if you were going with the protec pipe i would get the ada girdled head since the pipe mounts to the head.

either pipe is great. b pipes are great because its much easier to work on the motor because the pipe is not in the way. you can change chambers down the road.

then the protec pipe your savings lots of money. i have a protec pipe and im debating going with a b pipe. it hits nice and it was cheap. some even say the protec has a better midrange hit but lacks some of the bottom end hit the b pipe is known for.

Im in the same boat.

Ive got a protec pipe it works GREAT, im afraid if I sell it and then buy a B pipe, it wont be noticeably better.

I DO like the idea of easier to work on the engine thoough.

I had a protec pipe (f-series) on my 650 motor and I bet I save 15lbs by switching to the b pipe. I think the protec pipe had good performance but it did lack that initial low end hit.

Joe kenny runs a protech, cant be all bad! If I were building a ski now I'd go protech but I'm a cheap SOB.

Not lately...

weight isnt an issue to me, Ill skip some cheeseburgers, and use the money for fuel/beer.

If it was 75 lbs, vs 10 lbs that would be one thing, but more like 10 lb difference or so right?

B-pipe and save the $$$ on the head as a milled stock head performs the same as an ADA or any aftermarket head. Unless you plan on removing the head regularly then the O-ring design comes in handy.

Yes, lately... I saw his ski in Pismo (last october) and he was running a pro-tec pipe. Said he liked the power delivery better, smoother, better for surf.

B-pipe rules for bottom-end snap and engine accessability. period.

Hmm. Go figure. Blowsion is selling both those skis with a Factory pipe. They probably don't want people to know he's been running a protec.

you then run the risk of cracked cylinder though right? with the 61x cylinder at least.

Not if using a B-pipe, it doesn't mount to head causing vibration. I guess if the cylender is radically ported and your running 225 compression a girdle kit is required. But I have seen milled OEM heads run on lightly ported 61X cylenders at 185 compression for 8 years w/o even removing the head once. And the cylender I am talking about is still on its original bore (has been honed and new pistons installed once) since 1996 it is at .0065 clearance now though. It has never had a girdle head on it.

My first blaster had a Factory Mod Pipe (the one with the lord mount that mounts to the cylinder and that thing ran for a good 7 years. The guy who bought it from me eventually rebuilt the motor in a complete restoration even though it didn't need a rebuild.

Personally I like having the added security of the girdled head, but I think the risk of cracking a cylinder without one is way over exagerated. I'm sure it happens, but not often thats for sure.

It happens, but only on radically ported motors and usually high compression motors w/ head mounted pipes. Heii the motor I discussed above had a riva pipe mounted to head and is ported w/ a OEM milled head at 185psi comp. and like I said its 10 yrs. on original bore and second set of pistons.
Now a 760 ported cylender is a whole new game, if you own one get a girdle on it.
