Here's what happened when I ran my 61x, riva red, 175psi motor without a girdle kit last year.

You know what my recommendation is

after reading many threads on this ( in the past) I was under the impression that the general concensus was that 62t cylinders were beefier, and at LESS risk of cracking without a girdle?

It happens, but only on radically ported motors and usually high compression motors w/ head mounted pipes. Heii the motor I discussed above had a riva pipe mounted to head and is ported w/ a OEM milled head at 185psi comp. and like I said its 10 yrs. on original bore and second set of pistons.
Now a 760 ported cylender is a whole new game, if you own one get a girdle on it.

thats what my wife's square nose has on it ( 650 engine)

pipe, head, carb adapter and water sucking flame arrestor ( swapped back to stock)

protec mats, rideplate, it had all that jazz.

its VERY strong for a 650.

Ive never had the engine opened up, not sure it had port work or not, I do not think so though.

Ok so does anyone have any experience with the ProTec Wake Up kits on a SJ?

I wouldn't bother, you'll pay more for the same things you can get used.

I'd look to get a nice used aftermarket head. Spend $200+girdle kit. I'd than get a nice used B pipe for $350-$400.

Rejet your carbs, prop the boat correctly to your requirements, and go ride.

Easy mods, nice difference, give or take $600-$800.

I agree with Goldenboy, even though I realize you were asking for actual experience with the kit and not what goldenboy would do with $800.

Good luck finding those B pipes under $400 too.

point me to them!

The problem we had with the Riva/Pro-Tec exhaust is when you port your cylinder and run higher compression, with the pipe being attached to the head it just rattles EVERYTHING apart. I thought that we were going to have to buy stock in Heli-Coil before we were done. IMHO I would spend the money on the B-pipe so that later on when you do more serious motor mods you will be on the right track with your exhaust system.

Dude, just buy one new. You're way below your budget already. By the time you find a trouble free B pipe for under $500 it will be winter, again.

About time, I was waiting for you to chime in.

No can do! The same way you have to have you ski all clean and pretty.:poke: I have to to get a good deal on anything I buy or I won't do it. Regardless of what or how much is it. I even tried to talk the guy with the 01 SJ down. Can't help it.:grumpy:

Also, have a long list of sh%t I need to buy. Including your trailer!!!

Fair enough, I've found a little extra cash alleviates a headache when purchasing certain parts, specifically, the B pipe. I bit down hard and bought one new after searching for some time. I was in a bit of a hurry, I only spent a month or two looking. I'm all about the good deal too, but time is worth money.

Not sure what the wake up kit is, but I know of a 650 ported cyl and I believe cases, protec milled head and a protec pipe and it frickin screems, will outrun most 701 limmitted boats no problem and has awesome bottom end too. I thought they called this the sleeper kit or something. Not sure what it costs, but it rocks. I would not hesitate to have them do motor work on my 701 after riding this boat.
