Back From the Dead - Yamaha FX-2

What was the turn around time on the coating.

Pretty fast, It was gone for maybe 3 weeks. The regular coating (Classic Polish) and basic color top coats are fast turn around times, my Chameleon head pipe on the Superjet took a bit longer because im guessing they had to order that top coat. The coating cost $330 for a B-Pipe + shipping to them. I like it for the extreme corrosion resistance, not to mention its performance bonuses. The coatings "feel" different than powder coat... its hard to explain

Got some test fitting done. Just as I expected, a little interference on the pipe.

No problem, just remove some of that glass!

Remember the tray I cut out? I did some measuring and the pump bolt holes do not align with the new pump. That’s okay, I trimmed them out and will glass them into the new tray. Interesting to see the layup of the tray… the sides don’t have the same pattern of layup. I noticed the same thing in the gunnels before I reinforced them.

Who makes that tank? Looking spiffy!

That is actually the new RRP internal fill tank. I have a Cold Fusion in my Superjet but those are discontinued, So I saw these and decided to give it a try. I really like the fit, it fits very well in this FX-1, but I will need to move my battery box/ make a plate that relocates it slightly. I’ve already mocked it up and it will fit fine. I really like the strap slots on the tank instead of bumps that don’t hold the strap in place haha.

Mount some ufo mounts and you can attach zip ties to pull the hose against the side to gain clearance.

Dang, I never thought of that! That would work great. I also ordered another silicone hose, it’s ID is slightly larger than the OD of my exhaust hose. I was going to sleeve that section and not worry about it. I check my stuff like every time I ride haha. The hose is also a tight fit over the fuel tank so I was going to sleeve it there as well. But the UFO mounts will only help!

Abandon? No way! I just took some time to build up the Krash. Back to the original project! Tray is finally ready for foam. I was able to reseal and fit in my ride plate blocks. I also got a really slick ride plate from Toby! He left it really wide so I could trim it to fit exactly, and I did just that. Looks like a great fit!

I decided to use the original FX-1 pump inserts, which means I cut and trimmed the slots to fit and I will glass them into the tray.

Lastly before foaming the tray, I added some drains. I put them as low as I could without being into the bottom of the ski, then added a small amount of epoxy to fill the low spot. Came out smooth!
