I think this is what you were referring to: http://www.jbjs.org.uk/cgi/reprint/82-B/6/846.pdf

I didn't have the info in front of me, but I can tell you he showed me on the MRI that my vertebrae had moved and even as a lamen I saw immediately what he was pointing out.

is what I am saying make medical sense to you now? I would like to be able to explain this the right way to people, sorry for the confusion...

the only thing you can do for this is fuse the bones together (from what he said and what I read)

I asked him about decompression and he said it would do nothing. What do you think??? Thanks for your advice..

so get them fused together thats not all that bad my dad has a bunch of them fused in his neck and back and has no restrictions he has had 5 different back surgreys and hes totally fixed he was told he was ******** out of luck by 2 different docs and finally the 3rd had the cure and i belive in that there is a cure for anything nowadays

my verbiage is probably not correct...
I will look at my MRI's and make sure I got it right...

L 1-2 migrating extruded disc fragment producing impingement and posterior displacement of the left L-1 nerve root as it traverses the left lateral recess superiorly and enters the left neural foremen
L 2-3 tiny posterior central superiorly migrating extruded disc fragment superimposed upon a mild posterior disc bulge. Mild stenosis of the canal and lateral recess
L 3-4 subtle left lateral disc bulge
L 4-5 Mild left post lateral and forminal disc bulge protruding mild stenosis with out definite nerve root impingement
L 5-S-1 Degenerative disc disease w/ small posterior central and left paracentral disc heriation

holy ********, now that is a bad back. you have pretty much lost all your cushioning in the low back.

there is still some things you can do to feel better. but i kind of agree with not taking hard landings. it is just going to accellerate the problem.

there is a type of traction that may help you. it is computer aided axial decopression therapy. i would do that with regular spinal adjustments to try and stall the problem and or improve on it. surgery is not a good option for someone so young.

I read somewhere that they are working on an injectable replacement for the discs,it bascally fills in the damaged area of the disc,I am not sure when it will be ready but it might be something to look into.

I'd just use this in a pinch. Nick probably has some 4 lb foam he could use though.

i am replying as i am reading .

i do not agree with his opinion on the only thing you can do. his only option for you is surgery, so that is all hea has to offer. just like all i can offer is spinal adjustements, physical therapy etc.etc.

40% of my patient base is herniated disc's, including my own mother who still works 50 hrs a week lifting patients and she still ski's at 62. she has L2-L5 herniated disc's.

just to let you know the research says 30% of the people who get low back mri's have no symptoms but still have a herniated disc. i have also seen the spontaneous healing of a herniated disc in my own patients verified from mri.
even though i was taught that it is impossible.

surgery was not an option... he said that there isn't much you can do about it.

I have degenerated disc disease and my discs will just continue to flatten under continuous loads like that... I may stat riding and start feel way better, who knows???... I just have to prepare myself for the inevitable....

hell, tell him to prescribe you some HGH.:bananalama:

i don't think it will help the disc as they loose there blood supply around age 21. but damn you will look good, if you get him to prescribe hgh get some extra for me :) that is going to be the new wonder drug mark my words.

there has got to be some thing on the market that helps rebuilt cartilage. i guess if they had it then a lot of surguries would not need to be done. then doctors would loose money. we can't have that, now can we.

I just had a microdiscetomy (sp) in Oct. I blew out L5-S1 at the Fall LSFR. L4-L5 and L3-L4 are already degenerative to boot. So no riding for a few more months. The doc recommended not at all. But I'll try some mild fresh water and see how it goes. I won't be riding at LSFR in a couple weeks thats for sure. Eventually, my doc thinks I'll need disc replacement. Falling apart quick. I feel ya, bro!

Wow Nick, after recently undergoing my own back shizzle at Daytona... I'm happy that you at least can get back to motosurfing. Maybe it'll get better for you down the line as time passes. Good news nonetheless.

Nick, glad to hear that you can ride again!! It was great to meet ya in Daytona, but it sucks that we couldn't ride with ya. Take it easy and do your PT and exercises. My PT has seen dramatic results without surgery. Most times he highly recomends against it. Look at you body position for driving in a car, sitting, etc. I am now constantly trying to keep my spine in the proper shape so I can keep riding.

Glad you will be back out there again..you will adapt...Nick remember on Daytona beach u helped me wrap my exhaust hose with your red duct tape ? well it is things like this and more that we need u out there with us...welcome back...
