I don't know about waste of time and money. I love flipping my ski. I've spent more than I care too igmit but it was worth every penny!!

Some people like back flips abd others dont. If you want to do it, and if you have the income to do it, then do it. Dont let anyone tread on you. I would love to see a 550 backflip a v wake. Or barrel roll
 
My plan is to start saving for a superjet this winter ride it mostly stock next year, then some perf. mods, and hopefully by senior year i'll have enough saved for a bob and that summer have the sickest ski on the lake!

This guy has been riding for some time, rides surf and FW. After a month and a half of riding a RN with a 1000cc DASA, Setback Mag, Mod B-pipe, he's still struggling with backies...

I can definitely say after riding a few really nice skis lately, after market, Rickter, Xscream, EME, that there is no substitute for skill. HP is great but you still need ot know what you are doing.

Put on a helmet, go ride your ski and have fun. If you can throw some stuff on a 550, you'll poop your pants on a SJ or FX1 that have mods.
