Backi Chan w/Dasa 1000 + the works completely submerged and rescued

I use a piece of 3mm bungy chord, fix to inside of scupper flap with a plastic P clip, run through to the rear engine mount and fix, this prevents the flap dropping open when you leave the water - stopping it ripping off or getting damaged on landing.

The weight of any water in the bilge will overcome the light bungy rubber.

May be worth considering

Here's a short version of what happened:

We were chasing a boat up river. We were about 1/4 mile from the Miller Park boat ramp. In the middle of Josh's back flip, I saw this black object fly over Josh. I wasn't sure what it was. I thought it may have been some turf. When Josh landed, he separated from his ski. Since the start switch was zip-tied, it was running by itself toward the beach. Josh told me to chase his ski. I captured it and hit the kill button. I should have taken it to the beach. But it looked fine. The hood was on tightly and no water in the tray. So I started to tow it back to Josh who was in the middle of the river. Suddenly the backend of the ski began to sink. I held on until the other guys arrived. At one point, the ski was completely under water. Josh was with me by now and he was not letting go of the ski. We finally got the ski to the beach. We drained most of the water. We then discovered the scupper valve was missing. Then I mentioned I saw a black object fly off the ski during the flip. Someone took Josh to our camp near the ramp so he could get his wake boat to bring back the ski. We loaded it on the boat's platform and ferried it back. We went through the process of removing the water from the engine and gas tank. The ski started up and Josh was able to ride it again. Disaster averted!

You did good and kept good control of your ski while you were killing the engine and keeping the ski from hitting something, no way anyone could have known the scupper was gone......

Let me also add all this all happens quickly ! i speak from experience . What i did see is that the ski's owner is ultimately the one who co-ordinated the save in the end .but it was the instinctive actions of his buddies that made it all possible .Attentive Ride bros that are looking out for each other are priceless .at least they didn't just ride off and continue to chase the boat ,they were paying attention .Buddy system always !

Definitely good team work. Its amazing how your natural instincs is to not let go of the boat no matter what. I've had that same feeling, "I'm not letting go of this ski". Glad you guys were able to save it.

whats the purpose of having one plug in the motor? is that to dry one hole and have the motor turn over to get it out of the exhaust. I have always taken all plugs out till water shooting out is little. then put plugs in and starting fluid to get water out of exhaust system.
