Freestyle Backie-Chan Rebuild

Helping a buddy bring a backie chan back to life. I've been around this ski since it was new, it has thin glass issues, broke within the first week of flips. Now 3 owners later my friend owns it and is time to fix it right.




Engine bay was a mess



We were able to start by just pullin/ripping glass out by hand.



Between a sandblaster and a couple different sanders, we got the engine bay all cleaned up and back to original fiberglass (forgot photo)

Just got in the 21 oz 8-Harness s-2 fiberglass roll



Tied in the bulkhead to the bottom, I've seen too many break in this area. Pure 1" thick resin was used to glue in the bulkhead, which creates a weak point, now better then new.

Patched all the cracks and sanded, to be ready for vaccum bagging

Nose area cleaned up, had some delaminated/cracked glass.



8 hs, then finished off with a layer of fiberglass twill dye black for looks

I think you need to start building your own hulls..

In the process of making my first fiberglass mold. Maybe some day haha.

Only been about 20 days since last update...slacking..I know lol..

Cleaned and filled these big holes in the motor mounts with 2 part foam.



I let beau have fun with prepping/grinding everything



Just a bunch of vac bagging, once you seen one you have seen them all, so i didnt take a pic every time. I vac bagged the entire engine bay. The hull is solid as a rock now.

Wrappy Chan... I think we did ok for our first time.

Mostly bare hull started out at 76lbs, now 95lbs, not too bad considering I added 180oz layup to the bottom and heavy layup threw out. Hull will see ocean and big yacht wave use.



New stainless steel bow eye, the original one was a flimsy steel eye.



All the incerts found/drilled
